Yuck - just discovered our Sewerage has backed up and flowed out down the side of the house!
ARGH what can I do (besides call a plumber ASAP in the morning)?
Have put containers in all the sinks so no-one can run any more water down the drains and stuck a note over the dunny button so no-one flushes. Gross! I suddenly feel like I'm living back in the third world.
Oh hun, yucko, I don't think there is much you can do, this happened to us last year very smelly. Hope you get onto a plumber in the morning and maybe a peg on your nose.

*SPEW*! Do you know if you have a grease trap attached to the plumbing at all? It will be outside, possibly near the kitchen or laundry and will be a covered cement box looking thing LOL. If you do, it may need cleaning out. We had one on a house we lived in and it needed cleaning out from time to time otherwise it would block up and cause backflow.
Is it definitely a backup at your end, or could it be coming from the main sewer in the street? If it is coming from the street call your local water board.
Astrid that's what I've been wondering...it's definitely not in the house (there's no backup in our drains, if that makes sense) but how do you tell if the sewer's blocked on our land or council's land?
ETA it has been raining a lot here today but we've also put a lot of water thru the drains as well so I don't know if it's us or them.
Trill, the covered cement box thing is where it has all backflowed from - but TMI it's definitely toilet sewerage that's come out (*gag*) so I don't see how it could be a grease thing? Not sure I want DH opening the cement thing anyway...(*erh*)
No it's called a grease trap but in some houses it can have everything going through it depending on the plumbing set up. Or are you on a septic tank system? If it is a septic tank, you will need a Kenny to come and pump it out.
Ok, just asked DH as he works for a water board ;) Call the water board first, they will come and jet the lines. If that clears the problem, then you are fine. If it does not, then you need to call in your own plumber. Rain technically should have no affect on the sewer, as rain water goes into the storm water lines.
No we specifically bought at property on sewerage although there are areas in our burb built at the same time that are all on septic, the kenny trucks go through regularly and pump whole streets at a time.
Just rang the water board people & they are sending someone out (no cost) to inspect & determine if it's our problem or theirs ...*sigh* another late night & just what I need after 5 nights of having DD up half the night & need to go to drs tomoz & waiting for plumber is just what is needed NOT! Not to mention $$$. I think **** is the appropriate swear word here

Ok, the Man is out there right now and it looks like there's a fairly significant blockage ON THEIR SIDE (:cheer:) although sometimes you still have to get your own plumber out I'm hanging onto a thread of hope that he gets it all sorted out. Also means they will have to do some cleaning for us, :)
ETA - TMI - urgh I can hear all our pipes going glub glub glub - I bet it's all spewing out the back again
LOL MD, ours are doing that ATM too because where we have our outlet for all our grey water is blocked off with grass so it isn't free draining and DH has to dig it out to clear it. I don't envy him that job LOL. A thinks there is monsters in the sink because of it.
Actually I'm feeling a little sheepish cos I noticed about 10 days ago that the sink drains were draining slower than usual - I've been putting that enzyme stuff down the sink thinking it might have been foody bits getting clogged in there - and now come to think of it the bathroom drains have been a bit smellish for a few weeks as well - I just put it down to it being summer and probably kinda mouldy down there :redface: (our other house got ponky every year when it was summer). Oh well if I'd done something sooner it would've been paying for a plumber whereas now hopefully this will fix it. Although the Man said it's a good idea to get a plumber out once a year to do a maintenance clearing process - which we have *never* done and we've owned the house for ten years.
WHOOPS.
Although thanking my lucky stars I got pushy and made DH put a strip along the shed door to stop rainwater running across otherwise we would've had sewerage all thru the shed where our stuff is stored. Blerk
