I have a plastic chopping board and it has food stains on it. I usually just bleach it every now and then and rinse/soak it before the next use. But I'm thinking there's gotta be a nicer way (for our health!) to do it. In the past I have tried just scrubbing like mad with hot water and leaving it on the window sill in the sun, but it doesn't work. Do you have any secrets to get my board clean??
Do you have a dishwasher? I put mine in the dishwasher after each use and it comes out nice and clean.
Otherwise maybe try bicarb and vinegar so it fizzes and then scrub it...
I would cut a lemon in half and sprinkle bi-carb on it - then scrub with the lemon :)
It should bleach it, deoderise (sp?) it and freshen it up!
I wouldn't be worried about the stain, providing it's being disinfected. Dishwasher on high temp is good, otherwise just dampen it, sprinkle it completely with salt, leave it half an hour then give it a scrub and rinse. Nothing's gonna survive the salt.
Ooohh! Thanks ladies :) I shall try the salt and lemon. If that doesn't work, I'll try the vinegar and bicarb. Unfortunately I'm the dishwasher in our house! I wish I had a mechanical one, lol!
yeah that & while it still has lemon on it, put it in the sun. Same theory as bleaching your hair with lemon;):
