Problems using MCNs at childcare (vent included)

Does anyone else have trouble getting the carers at childcare to understand how to deal with MCNs?

Last year I had no problems, I explained it, we discussed any issues and had a very successful year.

This year DS has moved in to a different room with different carers and they just don't get it!! :wall: I don't know how many times I have explained that they can't be loose, they need to be firm fitting which for his type of nappy is fully done up or at most, one snap showing in the middle. I have also explained about poo and how to roll up a pooey nappy so that it is all contained for me to take home and get out of the plastic bag (that they insist on using and then stuffing in to my wetbags!!) but I keep opening the bags up and there is poo everywhere and I have to put my hand in it to fish it out of the bag.

The other thing is that I have given them a cream for nappy rash that is zinc based. All of my MCN suitable ones have almond oil in them which is forbidden at childcare. So I explained that the cream is not to be used with his nappies (I did get one home once full of cream) and to use disposables with it. The next thing I know is I am getting only one MCN to take home at the end of the day. They are using sposies and cream during the day and then put him back in cloth for me to take him home in! Grrrr! He gets little red patches around his bum hole, but it is diet related - always much stronger the day after eating sultanas for example. Not a big deal, I don't put cream on it because it clears up without cream when he isn't constantly pooing.

I don't know what to do now.... I am at the verge of just saying stuff it, use disposables. I am noticing staining appearing on my nappies that isn't bleached out by the sun. I am sick of getting all these stinky plastic bags home full of pooey nappies and wet pants because they don't do the nappies up properly. I have demonstrated, explained etc, but I really think they just can't be bothered trying!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yesterday DD has a rash on her bum, and I had cream in her bag, didn't put it out as she didn't have the rash in the morning and they put zinc all over her bum in the afternoon so I have 2 MCN's all zinc'd up :o:rolleyes: what ****ed me off mroe is they don't know if a child can even use another cream, to jsut grab someone else's a ut on the bum, ****ed me off and the fact that they didn't check the bag first JIC :wall:

We have finally got the "poo" situation sorted, most of the girls tip out the one's they can and fold them up, I have showed there time and time again to snap them closed then put in the plastic bag as when they stuff them in, aurghhhh the mess is not fun to clean up and there is literally poo everywhere, but in saying that we haven't had that happen for a couple of weeks now.

The is one carer who is NOT a fan at all of MCN's and she has made it pretty clear to me a few times, that is fine, but it isn't your decision, and if you listen to me then it is no more difficult then cloth nappies.

The only thing I can think of is to write up an information sheet and pop it in a plastic sleeve or laminate it, and put it with his nappies, and show each of the carers when you go in during the morning. Explain how they are to be used, when to use the disposibles/zinc, only in "x" situation. And make it bold that zinc is NOT to be used with the MCN's.

Yeah I was thinking of the info sheet too.... but they just seem to need an infinite amount of detail which I surely can't put on an info sheet - because they won't read it all!!

Also I need some time to spare to do it which is annoying me, because it is so flat out at work at the moment especially with me finishing up in a few weeks! *sigh* I will try and get it done today or tomorrow in time for my meeting with them on Friday.

we dont have a issue we take a bucket and she rolls them up for us and places in our bucket..feeling quite lucky now.

I provided some nappy sacks (2 or 3) pegged to the wetbag for putting pooey nappies into before putting in the wetbag.

And I did a short, to-the-point list of instructions that they stuck to the nappy change wall for anyone who was changing nappies to refer to. Basically: for wet, do this, for pooey do that, don't use any creams I don't provide, don't rinse, soak etc., do up as you would a disposable.

No-one had any issues with understanding, just some comments that it was easier than expected.

Thanks Crystal - good idea. I did something like that today, but I used their cloth nappy changing policy and changed it so it was specific to DS and MCNs (theirs was all about flats with pins). They are going to put it on their wall too.

I think they don't even do the spoisies up like normal either so I pointed out how to fold them up today. Hopefully we will see some improvement next week. She was really receptive to receiving the information, and said if they didn't get it right to tell them. But I guess it is just making sure that all the carers get it. So hopefully the wall information will make things a little easier for them.
