..am I deluding myself?
I need someone to watch the boys for 2 hours, 3 days a week.
Is there any possibilty at all of getting FDC for only that amount of time?
I only know two people locally who use (different) FDC, and one has 8hr minimum, the other 5 hours minimum.
I don't know much about the minimum hours thing (never heard of it when I was interviewing FDCers!), but which hours of the day do you need them to be?? If you can be flexible, you might find a carer who is willing to do 3pm - 5pm, or 4pm - 6pm, or 8am-10am or something else that is before or after the hours of her other regular children. I know some carers to after school care of older children, surely that would only be for a couple of hours, so it can be done.
I know there are some FDCs that do before and/or after school care, so it must be possible to get shorter periods of care. If you can't find one in your area, maybe there is a nanny who would be happy to do just a couple of hours at a time?
I do FDC and i have never heard of minimum hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my area it would be up to the carer if they are willing to do only two hours!

Thanks everyone! :) yes it will be 4pm - 6pm that we will need as I work ft and dh afternoon shift
My fdc has min hours and core hours hence we pay for 12 hours care when dd is there 10 because we drop off and pick up outside her core hours. All carers seem to be different don't they??? I hope u get the hours u need :)
My DD goes to occasional care. They have a morning session and an afternoon session. morning 9:30-12:30 and afternoon is 1-4pm. DD goes on Tues and Thurs afternoons. I pay for the term (but you can pay per session) but you can drop off and pick up whenever. Its at our neighbourhood house.
4-6pm is a tricky time. Can you get a nanny maybe?
I could but last time i checked it was cheaper to pay for LDC than getting a nanny in our area.,:

I imagine that with a bit of hunting around you could get a FDC'er who takes after school kids. Give your local FDC managing body a ring, they will let you know if there's anyone available in your area. Failing that, what about a responsible senior high school kid who is keen for some cash?
Yes, I'm going to talk to someone who works at a local high school if I need to.
I just wish we knew our neighbours as a couple of them seem nice enough and I know they're home
