Explosive Poo's - is my baby healthy?

Hi,

I am a new mum, bub was born on the 03/03 and I just wanted to know if this is normal.

When I am breastfeeding, she will feed for 10 minutes then stop and do a poo, often it sounds like her nappy is exploding - I thought she must have diarrhea but her temperature is fine, she is feeding fine and sleeping without issue.

Is the liquid poo normal? I read somewhere that its excess breastmilk they dont digest that makes it so liquid, so mabey the explosive part is the fart (without being crude).

Hun my DS is exactly the same, it can be heard from across the room. As long as she is gaining weight, has plenty of pale wet nappies and seems content I wouldn't worry too much.

Sounds perfectly normal to me Jaans! It's hard to believe such a small person can POO SO MUCH!!! It's amazing how much time us new mums spend worrying over poo!! :rofl:

Jaans - it's such a joy to discover all the amazing things your baby can do - and this is certainly one of them. Explosive liquid poo is perfectly normal for a breastfed baby ... in this household it can often happen more than once a day, and my DS2 is three months old!

A good idea to check bub's temp if it's never happened before, but I'd almost certainly guess it's your bub behaving normally.

My advice ... try and keep everything contained in the nappy and run for the nearest change table the minute you hear that ominous blast! DS2 has his favourite pair of trousers that he does a "number 3" in nearly every time he has them on. They've been napisaned so many times it's a wonder they've got any colour left!!

Um, and maybe I should forewarn you ... if a No.3 happens when you're in the middle of changing bub's nappy and you're not standing in its way, it can generally hit the wall two metres away ;)

Thanks for all the responses eveyone, its amazing how much we worry, he makes a noise I write it down :)

She has plenty of pale wet nappies and we have been keeping a track of any input/output nd temps before and after feeds (we are such rookies) and everything appears to be normal.

But its really reassuring to know that other mums encounter it and that my baby is not flying solo on the no 3 haha.

I laughed out loud when I read that, I remember calling the maternal health nurse 13 number when my baby did her first explosive poo. I was in tears thinking I was a bad mother and she had diarrhea. The nurse told me it was because I was breastfeeding and I got used to being paint balled by her poos.

haha, thats funny - Liisi seems to save it all for when we take her nappy off (crafty little bugger) although its yet to hit the wall behind me :)

But it is good to know other people are in the same boat!!
