qn for 9-5 mums with Primary school children

I have a question for the mums out there that work 9-5 jobs. (without family support networks)

What do you do with your young school children after they finish school in the afternoon until you finish work.

Ie i am talking young ones (prep -y 3) mostly?

How do you feel about not getting them from school at 3pm when it finishes and the other mums or dads are there?

I am currently a shift worker, so i have never had to consider the options of what happens between 3-6pm.
But i am looking to go back to university and which would mean by the time my little ones are in school i would be a 9-5'er.

i am wondering what others do?

I haven't had to do it everyday, but I was doing it 2 days a week. I have MIL close by now, but at first I would alternate with another mum at the school in having the kids after school.., I had her children over on Fridays and she would have mine on the two days I worked. I also cooked for her for one of those days for dinner for both families.

I haven't had to use after-school care, but I do know some of the children do it at Jovie's day care. They come after school for 2 hours and the school walks them over and signs them in. A lot of schools have provided for that.

This is going to be me next year.
With DS1 it wont be so bad because all the schools I am looking at have OHSC programs.
However if he gets the bus, Im not sure how that would work as Id probably have to look at FDC or another parents to pick him up from the bus and look after him until I get home from work.

There is one day a week when DD finshes school, and DH and I can't guarentee that we will be at school in time to pick her up, so she gets picked up from the daycare across the road from school, they run an afterschool care program, and once DD gets a little older there is an OSHC centre just next to the school.

It is just so different to what i am used to as i usually finish a shift at 3pm.
And as we live in a town with no family (closest is 600km) i need to look into these options.

I guess the next challenge is finding a employer that is flexible enough not to keep you back late every night!!
