No personal experience here - but smoking does affect fertility (both female and male) - so logically over time if you have quit smoking your fertility should improve.
It absolutely couldn't do any harm to your chances to get pregnant - and it is probably easier to quit before you are pregnant than once you are as it would put extra strain on your body that you probably wouldn't need.
Good luck
i cant reallt say with all previous pregnancies i had smoked up until finding out i was pregnant we are now ttc again and i quit smoking about 2 months ago and not pregnant yet but im sure the changes it does to fertility wont happen overnight or even 1 cycle for that matter, sorry i couldnt be of any useful help
thanks for your input i have been ttc for 3 years nearly have only just started serousily trying and have stopped today so hopefully it helps
I'm not a smoker or drinker but I saw a naturopath after my last 2 m/c and she suggested 4 months of taking the supplements she gave me, 4 months of no drinking caffeine and staying away from harsh chemicals (apparently chemicals like cleaning products etc can affect egg quality) etc because it can take that long for new eggs to start to develop I think. I'm not completely sure how accurate this is so perhaps go and see your GP.
I would suggest to quit now, get some pregnancy supplements and maybe start eating a healthy diet for a few months first.
Hope all goes well :)
Both my husband and I were smokers, and have been most of our adult lives, when we conceived.
We weren't TTC though, so the notion of it affecting fertility was never an issue.
My best friends are smokers, much heavier than DH and I and they have 4 children and no trouble conceiving. She also smoked throughout her pregnancies, and to this day, and all chicldren were healthy at birth, and 'normal' birthweights.
Obviously smoking can cause damage, but sometimes it doesn't. Quitting can only help you either way. I wish you luck!
I quit finally when I was 4 months pregnant, it was MUCH more difficult than I thought. I was smoking again by the time Charlotte was 3 months old. I finally quit for good last September and it was the easiest thing I have ever done.
When you make that decision it will be easy. Keep focused and avoid that next cigarette :)
Good luck
I conceived while smoking cigarettes, but apparently we had no other issues. I did find though that with an xp, we were both pot-smokers and months of trying led to zilch, the minute I quit smoking pot and DH and I started trying, bang. Sorry that doesn't answer your question, but I have heard that smoking is a big fat no-no if TTC... all those yucky chemicals floating around are sooo bad... I wish I had been able to quit prior to TTC, as I continued to smoke throughout my pregnancies :(
Best of luck with it, I suppose some people are just more sensitive than others to the chemicals and harm that smoking causes. I hope that a simple elimination of all the yucky stuff in your lifestyles will lead to a happy and healthy pregnancy!
Thanks all i smoked and conceived my daughter 7 years ag and now have been trying for #2 for 3 years, today is my first day of not smoking it driving me crazy but i am sure i can do it!! i am taking prenatal vitamins was on the blackmores one but have just started on fertilaid so maybe that will work has some good reveiws
good luck sweety, I smoked up until I found out i was pregnant with dd, but that was 8 years ago (and much younger LOL) now we're trying for #2 and can i say - its just not happening.
My aunty on the other hand is preggers with baby #8 and has smoked/drank (drunk?) through every single pregnancy, btw she's never had a miscarriage either!!. IMHO i do not think u should smoke/drink through a pregnancy, as a parent, I want to give my children the best start i can :)
thanks naenae83
i have just topped smoking been 3 days since i have had one so hopefully that works had a hsg test done and was told tubes were have spasms and that the main thing that causes that is nicotine, am now booked in to have a laproscopy in the nest 3 months because of suspected endo, how long have you been trying for #2 for?? we have been trying for 3 years but only just gotten in the drs for help because of my age (25) they would not do anything any earlier which is not really fair but oh well,
We've been trying for about a year and a half. 12 months of not preventing (and obviously nothing happened) We've both been tested (as in ovulation and semen analysis) and we're A ok. Gyno told us the only thing he can do to help us is refer us to an ivf clinic :( Its heartbreaking - I've only just turned 26, and I struggled for about a month or so (still have a few troubles dealing with it) But I am putting things into perspective, if in 6 months we still havent fallen, I have decided to see a naturopath and have massages for relaxtion :) then we will have a consultation. DP is all for it, he is getting older and doesnt want to be too old before having his first which I understand. I have given a timeline and 30 is my cut off (personal reasons)
Good Luck babyskye, Perhaps now is the time to see a consultant at a clinic? Try a naturopath?
