What to expect now?
Hello,
Just hoping someone can help me....I had slight bleeding yesterday, went to the doctor who organised a scan for this morning at 8.30am, so I have had the scan, no heartbeat and measuring very small for dates :( I was to be eight weeks yesterday.
So what will happen now - will I pass a large amount of blood now, alot of pain???? Or will I need a D&C (?), the sonographer didn't really give me a clear idea, and my doctor only works Monday and Tuesday's and I feel like I need to know what to expect now....
Thank you so much in advance. Sorry if this is an often repeated question...

Im so sorry to hear Laurin,
I had a MC at 8 weeks and it was whats called a spontanious MC so I passed everything without a D&C. I took me about 2 weeks to fully stop bleeding. The start of the MC was quite heavy and clotty (sorry TMI) and with period type pains then after a few days the bleeding was lighter and stayed that way like AF for a week and a bit.
Is there any other GP's you could go to? or even the ER dept of your hospital?
Hugs to you

Laurin, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I had a similar situation last year and I did not require a D&C. I didn't bleed for that long, a few days of heavy clotting and painful bleeding but then just spotting afterwards. I had blood tests to confirm that my HCG levels were continuing to decrease. Hugs for you during this difficult time.

Laurin - I'm so sorry, it's such a terrible situation to be in... I know all too well and have been in your exact position. From my experiences, you have a few options and you'll really need to talk to a doctor about them and work out what's best for you. Do you have another doctor you could see? As someone else mentioned, you could always go down the your local emergency department.. that's what I did for my last loss and they were able to schedule a D&C for me the following day.
From my experience your options are: 1. to just wait and let nature do it's thing. Unfortunately this can sometimes take quite a few weeks and there's no way to know when it will happen. Sorry if tmi but there will be quite a lot of bloody and sometimes it can be quite painful, it just depends on the person. 2. I think you can be given medication to help speed the process up but from what I know, that can make it even more painful but it will happen faster. 3. You can go in and have a D&C, which is surgery but it's very quick and pretty much painless.
I've had three D&C's in total and as horrible as it is to have surgery, for me, I just couldn't bear to wait any longer and the proceedure for me was painless, with only some light spotting for a few days after the proceedure.
It's such a difficult time and you need to do what's right for you.
Take care and be kind to yourself.

 Laurin. I too am very sorry about your loss. I have also been in a similar situation and I've let the process happen on its own. My last loss back in December I was meant to be 8 weeks but bub was much smaller too. That M/C was very painful and lots of clots(sorry TMI). I passed clots for over a week and was told that was normal too. My bleeding continued for nearly 3 weeks in total. I really think I should have had a D&C but because it was around Christmas I wasn't seen by my usual Dr or Ob.
I honestly think you should see another Dr if your usual one is away for a few days.
Please be kind to yourself and surround yourself with supportive people during this time

I'm sorry for your loss Laurin. You've been given wonderful advice already.
With my losses at 5 & 7 weeks, nature took its course and I miscarried at home. Once the bleeding had subsided, I went for an ultrasound to check that everything had passed.
With my experiences, the pain was quite bad and there was a lot of bleeding and clots. However both times I did not bleed for too long. Only a couple of days from memory.
Take care of yourself hun. I know you're alone at the moment at home, but remember you're not alone in the BB world.
