Baby jealous of older sibling

I know that there is often jealousy on the part of an older child when the younger one comes along however I seem to have the opposite problem at home!

DD2 appears to be jealous of her older sister, who completely adores DD2. In the mornings DD2 generally wakes up first, comes into bed for a BF and a cuddle. DD1 wakes up and also comes into bed for a cuddle. If I go to cuddle DD1, DD2 throws herself face down on the bed and starts screaming. She only stops when i stop cuddling DD1 and give DD2 attention again. She also tries to push her out of the way if DD1 is on my lap and DD2 wants to be there plus she pulls DD1's hair and hits her.

Is this normal behaviour? I am trying to ignore it and hoping it is just a phase as I'm not sure what else to do :dunno:

I'm sorry I can't help. We're going through a similar thing with DS2 being the jealous one too.

so far we havent experienced this at all.
DS is so cruzy with his big sister that he lets her do what she wants.
He knows he can have me the same time and i guess isnt phased by it.

I am not sure if my 2 being 15 months apart made a difference?

PP - maybe your son's middle name was an omen ;) I wonder if it has something to do with siblings being the same gender?

Going through the same thing too ATM too. My philosophy is to spend quality time with the others while she is napping :D

It's a phase and the others all went through it too.

I guess the issue really arises when DD1 needs a cuddle or comforting while DD2 is up. DD1 isn't good at waking up and needs cuddling to ease her into the day. She also needs comforting if she gets so much as a scratch (which is often) so if I try to do this DD2 loses it and will even bang her head on the floor in a mega-tanty (I ignore this too).

I think there is always a stronger personality with children and i think my DD has established herself as the alpha dog in the relationship and it seems DS just deals with it! lol

Oh I was thinking of it to be more of DD1 getting upset by her time being ambushed!

Um I guess ignoring it is the best idea but maybe can you pick her up and deposit her on some carpet. C dude did some major headbutting tantrums for a while there and I'd put him in his room. He was a bit older though, closer to 2 I think so he caught on quickly that all he got out of it was a sore head ;)

No DD1 is pretty good - she just whinges "make her stop pulling my hair/hitting me/screaming"

We have floorboards and tiles, only 1 rug in the house. I'm sure she will get the hint that it hurts pretty soon - DD1 did the same at the same age and stopped it pretty quickly when she realised that it hurt :lol:

I have noticed just recently if I am cuddling DD1 then DD2 quickly comes up crying and trying to get to me, then I have to tell them one side each while they try shove the other one off! Thank god Ive only got 2, lol, cant imagine squeezing another in the fight!

yeah we have it here, originally it was DD getting jealous when DS came along but now if I am cuddling DD like today as she isn't well he starts screaming and carrying on like a pork chop, he is such a mummies boy, which is lovely but not when I need to give my DD cuddles to make her feel better. Poor girl, now that I am writing this I am feeling quite sorry for her as she doesn't get as many cuddles as she used to and puts up with alot more these days.....

My sister was like that. If she didn't have something, NO-ONE was allowed it, be it chocolate, a compliment, cuddles... or words beginning with the rest of the alphabet.

Speaking as the elder sister - nip it in the bud now. It will come to no good. Let the eldest know that she's special too. It's not all about the younger because she makes the most fuss. Calmly accepting things and being loving is WONDERFUL and needs appreciation.

I think it is pretty normal, Poppy bosses DD4 around and if she is doing something that she does'nt like or with someone she thinks she should be with she squarks and will go and pull DD4's hair etc, we just move her away, tell her it hurts to have your hair pulled etc, she will just have to learn to accept that others get cuddles too, strangly enough little DD1 accepts that DS5 can have cuddles and interact with others so maybe its a personality clash as well? Or just a same sex thing?
