Ds sick/ teeth :( help asap please.

Sorry if this is a bit muddled i'm really tired.

For the last 3 days my DS's temp has been fluctuating between normal mid 37's and the high 38's (underarm). He's slightly congested and just today started coughing a little bit maybe coughed less than 10 times today, but it's unusual for him. Has had low appetite for foods today and yesterday. Ie he only had small dinner today no other solids, and bf today was ok, but yesterday he had very little.
Aside from that and sleeping a fair bit more than usual he's been reasonably happy, considering the above.
Now the thermometer is reading 33(i tested it on myself and got 35. Something, so even if it is reading low he's still quite cold). He feels cold and a little clammy, but he's not shivering. DF says he feels hot to him.
We went to the doctors yesterday, he checked ears, throat and chest and said all seemed fine and it was probably just teeth but if the temp continued to take a urine sample and we'll go from there. Which we've done.

WDYT? Just teeth or should i be worried? I dont know whether to trust the thermometer or not.

I just noticed he was breathing a bit odd- take a breath, hold it, breath out, repeat. Few normal breaths them do it again. I woke him up from a deep sleep and he seemed ok. Was responsive etc. . I just dont know if i'm over reacting or not. I hate that i dont trust my own judgement!

:hug: hope tonight goes ok. I replied to your FB status, is there any chance you can take him up to the hospital and ask them to check his temp? If you are worried then I would go sooner rather than later, I know what it's like to worry over them all night! But going from hot to cold (even if the temperature isn't quite right, his temp isn't staying stable) doesn't sound too good, and if he isn't overly interested in eating/drinking, it may not take long for him to get dehydrated.

:hug: Sorry hun I only saw this thread this morning. What I would do I get good thermometer, either a forehead one or in the ear thermometer, they are much more acurate than the under arm ones. I would keep offering BF's, don't worry too much about solids, as long as his fluids are up that is good it will keep him hydrated.

The change in breathing may be that he was in a deeper sleep and because you are watching him more closely you are noticing the difference.

If he is generally happy inbetween then I wouldn't take him to hospital, as your GP has checked all the ears throat and chest, that rules out quite a few things so I would be inclined to think it was teeth, is he chewing on things, putting his hands in his mouth more etc?

How are his temps this morning, did you get in some good BF's?

He was alot better today. He slept until about 9am which was unusual- although I did wake him up once or twice last night so he was probably just catching up on sleep I deprived him of. :doh:
he started getting a bit hot and upset around 1pm but was fine and back to his happy self again after some nurofen.
Bf was fine today, still not really interested in solids.
1 runny poo, probably because he's barely eaten any solids the last 4 days.

He's been dribbling a little bit, putting his fingers in his mouth occasionally- more than usual, but not alot (if that makes sense) and getting very frustrated when chewing on toys.
At lunch time today, he would put the ear of his dog in his mouth, bite down as hard as he could and pull it out, while still biting it, then burst into tears like it really hurt, then do it again! He did it about six times and would have continued if I'd let him.

Anyway, I believe it is his teeth. I'll still call up for the test results on monday but I don't expect them to have found anything.

I just wanted to pop in and clarify this. The forehead thermometers are actually notorious for being inaccurate - it is not uncommon for them to be out by up to 1 degree :o. If the ear one (tempanic) is not used correctly, it can also result in an inaccurate reading. I have a good old mercury one to pop in the mouth as these are much more accurate, but also have a tempanic for DD (and often DH because he's worse than DD!).

Heva, I'm glad your DS has picked up. There has been a virus going around for the last month which presents as (very) high temps with few to no other symptoms but then resolves after 48-72 hours. From your last post, I'd agree it is most likely his teeth that are bothering him. Pain (from any source) can increase the body's temperature. It is quiet scary when they get high temps, isn't it!
