Romone Jon 2/11/2008 finally
I remember going into labour on the thursday 30/10 after having a show that morning. My son was in the posterior position but we didnt know that until we got to the hospital. we rang my MIL as she is from Melbourne and was flying up fpr the birth. I had asked her if she wanted to be there as it was a first grandchild all round and My own mum had 3 Caesaereans and I wanted someone there to help me....
She jumped on the next plane whilst we spent the night counting contractions and calling the hospital to check when we should come in....
On Friday night we went to the hospital and after an internal it was found that I was only 4cm and my baby boy was posterior.... they explained that this might make the labour longer and more intense (in the back)
We were sent home to labour there and try to get some sleep
On Saturday night the pain became worse and after taking the pain tablet they had given me to try and sleep I couldnt take it any longer and screamed out for my hubby and MIL to wake up and call my mum and take us to hospital......
The ride there was HELL. Every bump and every contraction I thought I was going to give birth in the car. I was cursing mum for her driving and the hospital for sending us home.... We practically ran into emergancy and screamed we were having a baby... it all seems silly now... these things happen to people everyday but for us we were so excited/scared the atmosphere was amazing....and crazy
I remember being shown to the labour ward and being leftt in the room with my hubby to have some GAS and AIR.... Hubby thought it would be funny to have some too and kept stealing it off me.... little did he know it would knock him out. he'd been at work for a long shift then couldnt get any sleep coz I was in labour.. Now it was time for the birth and he crashed out on the couch right next to mey bed. Whilst I layed there, wailing in hard labour, begging someone to warm up my back heat pack,,, I was labouring in my back mostly by then
I asked the mdwife by sticking my head out the door... She laughed and said it was MY BIRTH PARTNERS JOB> What a *****.... My mum and MIL had gone for a walk together to give us time to adjust to the hospital room.
By the time they returned hubby was out to it and the gas wasnt even relieving my pain
Another midwife came in and offered me pain relief. I said ok because I was in so much pain by then. I got a shot of pethidene in my leg.
Finally MY midwife showed and after checking me and helping me move from the shower/toilet (where i was sitting thinking I had to poo .. lol )
She moved me to the bed when I started to haemmorage and told me it was time to push. I was a little out of it talking jibberish, and I remember talking about cutlery ( and something my husband had to do if I died) I now realise I must have been scared talking all that crap lol
I lent over a large beanbag on the bed and pushed for what seemed like hours but I told was only 20 minutes.... I felt my sons head pass through and it was the most incredible pain , burning but I knew the worst was over... One more big push with everything I had and my back literally separated from me.... I looked like a dinosaur and He came out, into my husbands hands as he was now standing to attention after being woken by his mum, he was ready to deliver our baby and helped me through it in those stages of pushing and delivering our son,,,,, the last push was very hard and frantic as they were yelling at me that if he didnt come out now it wasnt good as his heart rate was dropping....
We didnt know my son sex before then.... So after I pushed him out and my hubby then cut the cord (which was very short) I was given the shot for my placenta and my hubby was holding our boy to his chest bonding already whilst they stitched me up and I delivered the placenta... When it came out it was gross, It had started to rot(TMI I KNOW)
sO I asked my hubby If he was a boy
He replied of course he is
Then i got a hold him and from that moment on I have been totally taken by him
