Approx cost of curatins/blinds

Hey all,

I just got a quote from dollar curatins & blinds to re-do our whole house. This is what we got quoted for:

- Drapes and pelmets in the master bedroom, living, dining, study and other two
bedrooms
- As well as the 'sheer' hollands (for privacy & blockout of light during the day) in the
lounge room & all bedrooms
- Drapes in the rumpus room
- Holland blinds in the kitchen / meals area, ensuite, bathroom, laundry and family room

Total of 29 windows

The quote was $9,995

DH thinks this is really high, whereas I was expecting it to come in much higer - what do you think? Can you recommend anyone else? I am in the SE Suburbs of Vic

we got spotlight to quote a while back - that sounds about right to me. we were looking at 5500 after 25% discount, blockout curtains, lace curtains, and new runners right through the house. this was about 3 years ago and i know everything has gone up. it's exxy but 10k for that many windows is about right - in fact, i'm with you, for 29 windows i'd be expecting more!

does your quote have window dimensions on it? maybe it's worth doing a phone around to see what else you can get?

we ended up getting ready made curtains for the two main bedrooms, and mum gave us some second hand ones for the other bedroom and study. am trying to work out how to get rid of the awful curtains in the lounge now! we're a fair way off the road so ditched the lace and i'm happier now it's gone to be honest

Was it one of the big crowds ie Kresta, Vista etc? When we had timber venetians put in we got quotes from various places and the bigger companies were HUGELY more expensive. Like, thousands of dollars more expensive.

We ended up going with a small independent family company that were much cheaper, great service and did it cheaper for cash. I don't think they did curtains and sheer hollands (I'll look them up and if they do I'll PM you the name - this is when we were in SE Melbourne) but in any case I recommend getting some quotes from smaller companies after that experience.

We went through dollar curtains and blinds at FG(same one?)
and we got drapes in the front two room with the sheer behind them, 4 lots of verticals for the back end of the house and a wood look venetian for the kitchen and it was $2800

That works out to be around $345 per wondow, not taking into account the actual sizes of the windows as some are obviously bigger than others. It does sound a little excessive to me. I am building a house and am trying to work on a budget that averages out to be around $200 per window. I'll let ya know how I go :)

Ikea have window furnishings. if you are going to have some blinds they are cheaper than most.
Google them to see what they offer

Pelmets and drapes are the most expensive window coverings you can buy.

We had our house done (27 windows) for $4600. 3 of those have blockout hollands and basic roman blinds.
The rest are venetians (I hate verticals), with one vertical at the back door becasue that was the best option.
We used a local independent to do them and he was half the price of the larger companies.

Thanks for that. I do have curtains/timber venetians/hollands throughout the house already but they are ugly and I want blockout of light, so the timber venetians don't really do that. I spoke to my Dad's wife who's daughter is an interior designer and she said you have to also look at the quality of the fabric.... I had a look at the fabric samples from dollar curtains & it felt & looked fine. :dunno:

My mum went through an independent company too but the quality was poorer than others I have seen. For example the holland blinds in some parts have staples (that you can see) holding the blind together, which I do not like, so it turned me off using them. I will continue to shop around as I am not in a hurry
