I'm thinking of getting a fringe at my next hair cut (just had one done today). I haven't had a fringe since Primary school which was over 20 years ago :o My hair is pretty thick, it's wavy, it's prone to fuzz without product. atm I tuck it back behind my ears. I'm scared :hiding: but am sick of my current look so.....
Have you got one? Do you like it? Did you get one and then regret it? Why? What are the pros and cons?
What about starting with a long fringe or a swooped side fringe to kind of get you used to it and if you can handle that, maybe go a bit shorter. A change is always fun! :)
I love my Gaga fringe! I've had it on and off for years, it grows out and then I feel like a change but don't want to cut my hair so I just go back to the heavy fringe and feel like it's a new 'do lol :)
I have very straight, heavy hair and never use product so it's quite easy for me to maintain, but that being said, it does get a bit puffy from sleeping on it so it usually needs a quick belt with the straightening iron in the mornings. I have a very long face so I have to keep my fringe really long, it needs a trim every fortnight (and sometimes I attack it in between trims lol) because I cut it to the bridge of my nose and it's in my eyes within a few days - a lot of upkeep, I know, but it looks stupid if I cut it any shorter (just my face, I guess, everyone's different). If I go for too long between trims, I just whip it up off my face with a bobby pin into a pomp at the front, it's cute and a little bit punk/pin-up ;) Very versatile!
Maybe you could try a whispier, longer side-cut fringe to start with, see how you like it and how the maintenance goes on it, and then go for heavier/shorter bangs when you're a bit more used to it? I love how just a simple fringe can make you feel like you have a whole new style, it's heaps cheaper than a cut, colour and blow-dry too lol :D Good luck with whatever you decide!
:jawdrop: Farout! That sounds like very high maintenance to me lol! I only wash my hair once a week cause if I do it any more it becomes unmanageably fuzzy and dry. Can't imagine having to cut it that frequently - this is my main worry I guess - the added maintenance a fringe would bring. My hairdresser said it would only cost $6 for a trim and takes about 2 mins but it seems like a lot to pay for a couple of snips :dunno::
I reckon I'd have to go quite short initially cause if it was a longer sweeping one I'd just do my usual and try to tuck it behind my ear lol!
Mines currently grown out; but i loved it. Especially coz my forhead gets dry sometimes so i never had to put make up on it Lol :shhh:
All i had to do was make sure i straightened it in the mornings and i was fine, sometimes id have to wet it and blowdry it to get it to stay right but only took 5 minutes!
If you hate it, you can just pin it back for a season like Donna suggested, which is cute.
I had a fringe last season (cut it myself and looked pretty ace I reckon) BUT I have quite fine hair so come summer the hot days sent it all flat and oily so I had to pin it up. Thick hair would be a whole different ball game I imagine, just need a bit of straightening to shape it.
If you hate it, it's not that permanent, shouldn't take too long to grow out.
Lol I know it sounds like a lot of hard work, but in all honesty I've never heard of anybody else needing so much maintenance on their fringe, like I said it's purely because I cut it about a quarter of an inch above my eyelashes so in a few days I look like one of those emo kids peeking out from under a mop of hair on their face ;) If I cut it just a half an inch shorter I'd have no worries at all! :)
I had a fringe a couple years back....looking back it added 10kgs easily to my face :( I mustnt have the right face for it. But my SIL has one atm, like the singer Lily Allen, and it suits her perfectly, its so cute on her.
I think you should go for it! If you dont do it, you'll never know. And if you hate it, well, its gonna grow back anyway!
I want one SO bad. I love them. All kinds. But they get trashed under my bike helmet, and I love my bike too much to give that up for a hairstyle.
Side sweeping fringes don't require as much maintenance - as they get longer, you just sweep them further across, if that makes sense.
Give it a whirl! Gor for a longer one to start with, so that it won't take too long to grow out if you hate it, then move on to a shorter one later if the look is working for you.
I am currently agonising over my fringe...I cut one in about 2 years ago and it sounds pretty similar to Glamourcide's ;) I generally keep it pretty long, just below my eyebrows. So yes, it needs to be trimmed every few weeks. My fringe is quite blunt and full so I would NEVER attempt to trim it myself. When I was prg it grew like weeds so I was getting it trimmed every 2-3 weeks. That might sound like a hassle but it cost me $4 a go and I was in and out in like 10 mins :)
I am currently growing mine out. For the second time. I started growing it out when I was still prg and it was just about there and then I decided I liked it better with a fringe so cut it in. Again.
This is one of the reasons I'm growing mine out. I LOVE it and feel fine about it day to day when I look in the mirror etc but every time I look at a photo..I dunno. I just don't look as good as I want to! LOL Friends and family tell me it looks good and it suits me but I dunno...I'm at that crucial point again where I badly want to cut it and colour it a beautiful dark chocolate colour...but I've come so far!! :wall::

Anyway - enough about me :rolleyes: back to you. Honestly... it doesn't sound like your hair is well suited to a fringe? I think you might find it doesn't sit well without a lot of work if you describe it as 'fuzzy and dry' :dunno: You could always use a straightening iron, but I find this makes my fringe sit really weird. I just wash mine, give it a blast with the hairdryer and I'm ready to rock ;) I have very soft silky kinda hair so it works really well with a fringe. Soft and silky sounds good right? Wrong. The little trick with the bobby pin the girls are talking about DOES.NOT.WORK. in my hair and it drives me batty. My hair seriously cannot hold a bobby pin, it just slides straight out. I've been trying for years, my hairdresser has tried, just doesn't hold. But I guess for most people it's not a big deal - cut it in, if you don't like it you can just pin it back while it grows out.
My advice would be have a good talk to your hairdresser, she'd know whether it will work or not.

I've been rocking the indie fringe for a few years now, i find it does take a bit of maintenance every few weeks to stop me going cross eyed. I like to mix it up every now and again, sometimes it's completely blunt and very straight and other times more choppy and messy. At the moment is asymmetrical and starts very short at one side and gradually gets longer across. I do all the cutting myself, much cheaper than going to get it trimmed every few weeks at the hairdressers! In regards to actual styling, it does get a bit fluffy when I wash my hair but nothing a quick run through with the straightener can't fix...takes 2mins.
