How many IVF tries?
Hello there,
I was just wondering how many times people have done IVF before falling pregnant?
My DH and I have been trying to conceive for 4 years now. I was diagnosed with stage 4 endo just over a year ago, and had a laporoscopy to remove it. We have gone through 5 cycles of IVF (1 stim and 4 FT) with no luck at all.
I was just wondering how many times it can take to fall pregnant. I guess I'm just losing faith, and dont really know how much more I can take of the emotional rollercoaster.

Hi Marz,
my DH and I were very lucky and fell pregnant on our second cycle, but I know of some women who have gone through 15 cycles before achieving the elusive BFP so please don't give up hope!! There are a couple of threads around you may find useful, including o w for LTTTC success stories which are very inspiring.
Wishing you all the very best xx

Hi lise - thanks so much for your words of encouragement, they mean soo much, and help alot. I'll def have a look at the LTTTC success stories, as i really need to hear some inspiring stories to keep me going. xx
Hi Loula - congratulations!!! wow 15 cycles!! you are definitely an inspiration for me to keep going then. xx

Hi Marz, in theory "they" say that you have a one in six chance... Having said that, in reality it can be a whole different story.
I've done 2 stim cycles and 2 FET's with no success, plus 3 other years of BBT, IUI and all the other usual attempts :) And I have no explanation as to why I have not yet conceived.
Don't lose faith, women try for many years through many transfers... The most important part of the process I think is to take the best care of yourself possible. Even if a break is the answer just to regain some faith and strength, then take the time to be kind to you and your body..
:goodluck:

good luk in the near future hunny keep your chin up and stay positive never give up.
it took me 3x full stim cycles and 2 x fet on the 2nd fet all natural i got my bfp

Good luck with your next cycle.
I consider myself extremely lucky because i fell preg first go round. On saying this i honestly believ it was just the right time for me to conceive. Im sure when the time is right your baby will chose you and what a lucky baby it will be to come to a mum that wants him/her so much :)

Just starting
Hi,
I have been told that it takes an average of 3 attempts (but I'm not sure if they are talking about full stim cycles or that includes FET) for women who have no major fertility problems (i.e. cases where they may need to do IVF because of the partner's low sperm count etc). If the woman has fertility issues then it will obviously take longer on average.
I am just about to start my first IVF cycle (currently on nasal spray and due for egg pick up around the 10th May). I'm hoping that I fall within the 3 attempts as I can't afford to try more than 3 times - actually at this stage I can only afford 2 tries but hoping if they don't work I might manage to scrape enough together for a 3rd try.
I know a few women who got pregnant on first attempt or 2nd attempt, and others who tried for 6 goes before falling pregnant (one of those then lost that pregnancy around 16 weeks). One who had an eptopic pregnancy and a miscarriage while on IVF but eventually successful after a total of 5 cycles (now due to give birth end of this month).
At my clinic I was told the chance with a full stim cycle is 35% and the chance with a frozen embryo transfer is 20%. So I guess if you look at those odds then since you have only had 1 full stim cycle and the rest were FET then the odds weren't that great anyway.
Hang in there if you want to, but I think it's also okay to say "I've had enough". I've done this at different times in my journey and had a break for a while and re-evaluated things. It is certainly an emotional rollercoaster and sometimes we do need to get off and stretch our legs for a while... I havent' started IVF yet but I was on the donor search for a couple of years and then donor insemination without luck... lots of ups and downs and tears during that time... even if I could afford more tries of IVF I don't think I could cope with too much more of this rollercoaster.
Best wishes
Lori

Hello, I fell pregnant with my daughter on my second try at IVF. It was several months after my first try though because our first consultant had told us to give up entirely as I was a "poor responder". We were still on a wait list for a NHS cycle (this was in the UK) when we were given that news, and when our letter arrived from the NHS two months later we decided to try again anyway just because it would not cost us anything. We switched to an antagonist protocol and had six follicles total (so still technically a poor response), three eggs retrieved and only one fertilised, which at three days looked to be the perfect embryo and was transferred. My daughter was born nine months later. A great success for a poor responder.
Here we are a couple of years later trying again, ever optimistic, but we have had only two cycles out of four that have got to EPU, and only one that has got to transfer, and our beautiful looking embryos did not make it this time. Everything said they should have made it - they looked good and I had fallen pregnant before - but they didn't.
So I believe you can be told all sorts of things about your odds, or statistics, and how many times you should or shouldn't try, and at the end of the day it can be meaningless.
Don't give up after a few failures without trying something different, anyway. If we had given up when we were told to, we would have missed out on so much.

marz i have been with a total of 4 FS from both MIVF and Monash, and one consult with the famous DrS in Sydney.
just make sure they are answering your questions and you are understanding. xx

Good to hear Marz, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. I was also at MIVF and had a really positive experience and thought our FS and the nurses I dealt with were fabulous. All the best!

Hi
We had 5 unsuccesful cycles of IVF/ICSI before our 6th attempt resulted in pregnancy.
Everyone is different and you just need to keep trying. It is all worth it when you are holding ur ittle miracle in your arms.
Try to stay positive and keep trying xoxox

Hi Marz,
I'm sending you soooo much luck and positive vibes. I really do hope that you get your forever baby soon. I was at Melbourne IVF also (my FS and the nurses were AWESOME). I had one stimulated cycle that resulted in a BFN and then I was so incredibly lucky to fall pregnant on our first HRT FET. We now have an amazing 1 year old daughter. I really believe that I was lucky. I am the one in my relationship that has the fertility problems (PCOS) and as such I thought it would potentially take us longer. I think it just sometimes that all the stars align and that can be the luck of the draw - you know what I mean - your body responding in the right way, and the right embryo being transferred. Please don't give up hope. I know of so many wonderful mummies in here that have had long journeys and are now either pregnant or have their babies in their arms.
Looking forward to following your TTC journey and then your pregnancy journey.

Just relised I said 6 cycles
We actually had 6 trys, our 2nd try our embryos didn't survive the thaw. So we had 5 embryo transfers & 3 actual cycles of collecting eggs.
I guess it took us, 3 full cycles, 6 trys & 5 transfers (3 freash & 2 frozen) We got our BFP on third cycle, 5th embryo trandfer - freash.
