DD's ALLERGIC, Best Mozzie Repellants

DD1 has had an allergic reaction to a mozzie bite and boy was it horrible looking.

She has had reactions to mozzies before but just got the huge hard red lump or small welts, yesterday she woke with a small lump on her eye which then puffed up and went bright red, it's still swollen today and calaratyne didn't work.

Dr has told me to use her steroid cream on it and also give claratyne for the next couple of days, he has also given me Rediprep or Prednisolone to use in the case that she gets multiple bits and swells up so badly again.

So i really want some ideas on how we can keep these nasty little buggers away from her, we are moving to a house with a creek, we often go camping and fishing.

* Citronella - i will burn a candle in her room at night

I really prefer NATURAL ways as she has sensitive skin and is prone to eczema, i have kids raid but am not to keen on making that a regular thing.

Please help everyone, she looks like she's been playing in Mummy's make-up or gone 10 rounds with mike tyson.

We use a natural roll on called bug-gard as a repellant and itch eze cream which has anaesthetic and antiseptic for bites. Got them from the local chemist HTH

I do know of a cream that my dad uses (when playing golf :rolleyes:) that's a natural eucalypt and something cream that repells insects, it's AMAZING!

We use one that is tea tree oil based made by Thursday Plantation- not always that easy to find, but works really well.

My son was the same when he was younger, the only way i could keep them away from him at night was by buying a net to put over his bed OLD way but the BEST way for us. It only cost $20 and worked a treat!!!

I too am allergic to mosquito bites and I can get very ill if I get too many bites.

I use Rid tropical strength... not sure if it is suitable for your little one though.

Have you also thought about planting some plants outside her window or in a corner of the garden that might help to repel the mozzies as well? I just did a google search and found something that said marigolds and rosemary repel mozzies, I've never heard of that before?? wonder if anyone on here would be able to confirm that theory?
