I used to be on thyroid replacement therapy but about 10 years ago my thyroid seemed to sort itself out.
Had Pip, no problems. Now my thyroid is low again and my GP has consulted with a specialist who's started me on 200mg / day for a week, then 100 mg/day after that, with a blood test in 2-3 weeks time to see how it's going. I've also been referred to the endocrinologist who specialises in thyroid & pregnancy.
Wondering if anyone else is on pregnancy-induced thyroid treatment?
Hi kazbah, mine is not really pregnancy induced. I'm on thyroxine because I have no thyroid (total thyroidectromy 15 months ago)
I have to see an endochrinologist every 6 weeks or so and have bloods done to monitor my levels during pregnancy as you usually need more when preg. The endo also said that you are better off being slightly over while preg than under. I'm currently on 200mcg per day 6 days per week.
Good luck with it all. You've got the experts looking after you so you'll be aok. Just make sure you have your blood tests regularly so they can keep adjusting the dose.
All the best. I'm not pregnant or TTC#2 yet but I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about 3 months ago and then it changed to hypothyroidism a few weeks ago - without treatment. Now I'm on thyroxine (currently 50mcg) but being monitored by my GP until I can see the specialist in a month. I'll be interested to read about yours and other people's experiences with thyroid issues and pregnancy.
I had pregnancy induced hypothyroidism with Nate. Started on the same course as you and continued it for about 6months after he was born.
They didn't figure out that mine was low until late pregnancy but by then I had a myriad of other issues and the constant unrelenting tiredness seemed to blend into everything else. Couldn't believe the difference once on the thyroxine.
I'm just wondering if it means I'll have to return to the drugs full-time .. I mean, it's in my family history so I shouldn't be suprised, but I can dream of one less med!!!!
The doc sorta scared me by throwing out the "increased risk of m/c" card so I am .. interested ...in others' experiences.
