My little boy will only poo in his jocks

We have been TT DS2 for over 1 month now. He has the wee's no problem. Takes himself and we don't even know most of the time. Poo on the other hand is another story all together. He point blank refuses to poo in either the toilet or potty :shakehead: He is 3.5yrs old and is well aware of when he needs to go, he just does not seem to care if he poo 's in his jocks. He almost seems happy about it???

I am at my wits end with what to do. I have been on the potty training website and purchased the reward chart with the 'crackers' for the poo to feed and still nothing.
I have gone through about 30pairs of jocks, I mostly throw them out if they are too bad.
I have tried rewards, discipline, the I don't mind attitude. When we ask him where poo goes he says "in the toilet"! If I ask him why he doesn't poo on the toilet he says " I don't know". I have also got the potty out again and suggested he poo in the potty incase he is frightened of pooing in the toilet.
He doesn't seem to wee and poo at the same time so he will go to the toilet to have a wee and then I go on poo watch and he will then poo in his jocks up to 30mins later.

Does anyone please have any tips or advice they used to help us get through this, I know this wont be going on when he is in school :pray: , it's just very frustrating at the moment.

DS has been toilet trained for about a month now, and has only just started being more regular with poos in the potty instead of the toilet.

Every time he does it in his undies, we walk to the toilet, and I say to him "its ok mate, next time try to get it in the potty" .. "ok mum"...

I found that if I let him go without undies on - he will poo in the potty. If we put undies on him, he'll poop in them. So I let him run around without undies on for a few days, and now - most poop ends up in the potty :D

He does the sticker reward thing too btw, so that definitely helps.

the only thing that had success for us was letting DS run around in the nude at home all of the time. When out & about I would ask all of the time & remind him it goes in the toilet. Think this scared him enough to hold on til we got home & undies came off & he would go in the potty. We also had several potty's in different rooms, that helped. But remember to still be on the watch when they are running around in the nude as they don't wipe LOL, can leave a mess when they sit down.

My DS did this, drove me mad, I posted on here about it too!

We were very careful not to carry on about it, our approach was to take him to the toilet, clean him up, reiterate that next time he should do his poo on the toilet (and he never did).

I know what you mean about the grotty undies...we always had a bucket of Napisan in the laundry sink with his undies in it and I went through so much Canesten in-wash germ removal stuff.

In the end out and out bribery worked. Chocolate. He was properly TT-d, day and night, poos and wees just before he turned 3.

We told him that if he did a poo on the toilet he could have a square of chocolate.

So the next time he did a poo (in his undies) he asked for a chocolate. We very gently said no, chocolate was only for poos on the toilet. Poor DS, he burst into tears, we took him to the loo, cleaned him up, gave him lots of cuddles and explained again that he could have a chocolate if he did the poo straight into the toilet.

The next day he very anxiously said he needed to do a poo (first time ever, he used to nick off and hide to do the poo in his undies) so I sat him on the loo, stayed with him. He said "I can't do it!" so I told him to just try and fart (lol) and plop! Poo in the loo.

First thing he said was "Can I have a chocolate now?" :lol:

Of course I made a huge fuss and he was allowed a chocolate, we rang Daddy at work and told him.

And we never looked back, only had one accident since then and that was just because he didn't quite make it to the loo with enough time to spare.

For about 3 months afterwards every time he did a poo he got a chocolate (so he was getting one every day), he would ask for it straight away. I was a bit worried about what I had started but I started distracting him to see if I could get him to forget or I would "forget". Sometimes he would remember later so I'd give him one then but gradually it got phased out. Now he just takes himself off to the toilet and will call out in a sing song voice "I've done a poo-oo!" and we wipe his little bum for him and away we go, no more chocolate.

Just had to find his motivation, I guess...:redface:

I suspect it's going to be an uphill battle as he is a very determined little boy, ahh well, that's what parenting is about sometimes.

We have exactly the same problem here. I think us getting upset over it has made it worse as he always poos overnight now when he is asleep.
We have tried bribery (we even offered a scooter which he really really wants) but nothing yet. Oh well. Am trying not to let it stress me. But he did used to go when he wore nappies during the day. Since he went into undies he won't go. We have tried going back but it hasn't worked either. Can't wait till this milestone is over LOL

kyrsalyss we are still at a stale mate with poo. It's looks like we are heading to the poo in his night nappy, although he will do it before he goes to bed.
I had one day when I stalked him and he managed two poos on the toilet. I made a huge fuss, gave him a reward, rangd Dad.
He seems to start on the toilet then say I am finished and the finish off later in jocks. So I think it's psychological.
We have resorted to putting a pull up on when I go to a play centre, as when we get there I don't see him, he is too busy playing. An also the gym creche as he is comfortable in that evironment and usually does a poo there too.
I got caught out two weeks ago at gym creche. He is only there for an hour, I walked and I could smell it (he had jocks on), I quickly took him home as I was embarassed.
I am trying to take the attitued of 'oh we'll get there, he want be wearing pullups when he starts school' :pray:
I just need him him to be trained by 4yr old Kinder next year :pray::pray:

sounds like some jocks off time might be in order.

we don't have this problem yet, but probably because we havent merged to jocks because we figured ds isn't ready because he doesn't want to use the toilet, for anything!!

it seems as though nudie time might be the go, but it's too cold now for that, might give it a go when the weather warms up if he hasn't made the decision on his own by then, he will be 3 in August

We have the same problem here. DS will go if he doesn't have his jocks on, although he will run around holding his bum for a while first. "Do you need to go toilet?" "NO".. gotta love the stubborn ways of toddlers! We are using a food reward - stickers just didn't cut it for him - so he gets a couple of TicTacs (he is obsessed).
I also read an article on the website Babble that talked about potty training and explaining to your child (if they are old enough to understand) that it's their job to get the wee and poo out of their body, and Mummy and Daddy's job to empty the potty. It worked pretty well on DS. He know understands that if he has poo 'in his tummy' and he holds on, he'll get a sore tummy. He would prefer to do it in his undies/ or nappies but if we can catch him in time, he'll mostly have a go. It's all going to be a gradual process though I think!

Jack was TT for probably close on 9mths before he would do #2 in the loo thankfully he would ask for a nappy...when it was time...I have read soemthing about the sensation of doing #2 is quite scary for littlies...patience is the key perhaps at his age say to him if you need to poo you either do it in the loo or ask for a nappy I know its not the best solution but it saves mass clean ups

we have been tt our 30 month old son for about 2.5 weeks and were finding the same thing.
we had a breakthrough last week..we did a couple of things, who knows which of them actually worked.
the first idea came from this 3 day potty training business we have been doing..and was to go back to religiously tailing him until he needed to go, catching him mid poo and then running and popping him on the potty to have him finish his business on the potty. it was hard work catching him especially with a 10 week old to feed etc as well! initially "finishing" meant just pulling undies down and letting the poo from undies roll into the potty..we got v excited and offered major rewards for poo making it into the potty. we kept emphasising poo had to go into potty/toilet and nowhere else. as per the book we did also say that poo is a bit yuck and really should go into the toilet not undies or nappies now that he is a big boy. Once he got that idea that the poo physically in the potty was worrthy of our encouragement and some good rewards (little toys such as matchbox cars or the promise of maccas lunch) he got closer and closer to the bathroom and potty each accident and then eventually told us he needed to do a poo on the toilet. i kept alot of fibre going so it was inevitable he would have to go!
the toilet also seemed to scare our son so we also have tried to make it a little fun by saying that he has to push his poo out into the toilet or potty so that we can flush it down the toilet to meet daddy and mummy's poo at the poo party! we made a big deal of encouraging him to flush the poo down the loo..which he has really become attracted too. sadly he wants to flush all of our number 2s (together with the poos of our bemused guests) away to the party now!
after doing the above for about a week we have had no poo in undie accidents (or wee or wet the bed overnight) since last wednesday!

Well I think we have finally cracked it as DS has now gone to the toilet for every poo over the last week.
We had a long running arrangement that when he had done 5 poos in the toilet he could get a scooter or a balance bike (we don't usually bribe but were getting a bit desperate!). But that didn't seem to help. We talked to him again and again but that didn't help either. In the end we were getting pretty grumpy as he was just being so stubborn. DS and I had a chat where I said sometimes we get grumpy about him pooing in his nappy. He laughed and said 'yes I know!'. So that was it. We decided that we wouldn't say anything at all. 4 days later he went all by himself. A week later we have ordered him a balance bike and he is still going strong. The other morning he even got up out of bed and asked my parents to turn on the light so he could poo. We were amazed! So really he was just being stubborn and was always going to do it in his own time. I know he likes to dig in his heels so I shouldn't have gotten so stressed about it.

This is a great thread to read, giving me some good ideas. DS1 has been tting for 5 days, ad I can just see us heading down this path! I have figured for awhile that we might have this problem. Anyway, I'll take some of these tips and see how we go :) It's good not to feel alone, I am feeling extremely challenged by this tt business!
