DS has a cold - when to go to the doctors?

As the title says - my DS (almost 9 months) has had a cold for a week - low fever, cough, green snot, blocked up, raspy breathing...Whilst he seems happy enough - I thought he would be better by now? Do I bother going to the docs? Are they going to be able to do anything? I have been giving panadol when a bit warm/feverish, squirtng fess to clear his nose, rubbing on euchy bear rub, and using a vapouriser at night. Any other ideas?

I have also just found out a bubba at my Mothers Group who I saw yesterday is in hossy with bronchiolitis - the RS positive (sore something like that) kind? Do I need to worry? What should I watch for?

Green Snot usually means there is an infection. Sounds like he needs to AB's. Ide be taking him to the doc as soon as you can :)

Green snot is usually a sign of infection. So seeing a gp might be needed.
Have you tried steam? When mine are like that I like to try a steamy shower to try get the phlegm to loosen up. I find it helps them cough it up & gets the nose running, so the mucous comes out. Its not much good when its just sitting there.
Antibiotics might be needed to help him fight it though, & if you have a good gp, he should either prescribe abs, or tell you to come back in a few days if it hasn't gotten any better. Mine likes to try to avoid abs for children.

If you are worried/concerned I would take him to the dr. I took DD when she had a cold (only had a runny/blocked nose though, no green snot) as her cough sounded a bit nasty. The dr said she was ok and just give it time, I felt a bit silly after but it did put my mind at ease.

Maybe take a trip to the chemist and see what the pharmacist recommends?

If snot isnt clear then it can be a sign of an infection and antibiotics may be needed. I would go to the doctors. Hope your little man will be batter soon :hug:

I too would go to the docs, just because sometimes they can have an ear or throat infection that might be hurting and/or need ABs. The doc only has to check it out for you and if it is just a cold that he'll get over on his own it's good to hear that from a dr rather than just assume, KWIM? That's my theory anyhoo.
Other thing to look out for is if he is labouring with his breathing.
I usually find that my kids are over a cold within 2 weeks and if it's creeping up to 2 weeks or taking longer to get over, I take them back to the dr.
I second the steam suggestion. The vaporiser is seriously the best thing I have ever bought for my kids.

I would take him in if he hasn't been improving over the week, green snot is a sign of infection, but doesn't always mean antibiotics ;)

The raspy breathing would be a bit of concern and worth getting checked out. Taking him into the shower, steaming it up is a great way to help all those boogers out, much more efficient than Fess or a vapourizor :D
