Does he need cows milk?
DS is 14 months and still breastfeeds about 3 times a day, and usually once or twice overnight.
He eats really well, and I try to give him some yogurt and cheese every day. What I'm wondering is if I need to give him cows milk to ensure he's getting enough calcium, or does he get enough from breastmilk?
TIA :)

DS has cows milk on his cereal, and he has drank it on the few times I have offered it to him. I've just given him to it cold in a sippy cup, and he loves it! Just wondering if I need to be offering it to him though, and if so, how much?
Feeb: I guess your DS1 knows what he wants :).

I don't think you do, no, particularly if he's having other dairy products. On the whole, I think we tend to have too much dairy if anything.

Okay, thanks Marcellus :)

no they dont need it!!!!
DD2 wouldnt drink it and for other reasons we have taken her off dairy and she now has oat milk, its fortified with calcuim

Nope, not at all necessary, you can try it in a cup if you want to and see if he is interested, but he is getting everything he needs from your BM, and with the yogurt, cheese and even some custard he is going to be getting plenty of calcium :D
There is also calcium in a lot of vegies etc as well.
Congrats on 14 months of BFing, wonderful job

hi Sterla,
Yot little one doesn't need dairy. Humans are the only species which drinks the milk of another species. (and they all have bones)
then, only Western cultures who have the genetic capabilty of metabolising dairy and and the dairy industry to aggressively market it as a necessity
Most Asians stop making lactase, the enzyme that digests the lactose(milk sugar) after the normal age of weaning(6-8 yeARS) In China, and most parts of Asia, the dairy cabinet in the supermarket just doesn't exist - because dairy is not a normal part of the human diet.

ooh thanks for asking Sterla! My DH asked me that the other night and I had no idea.....never thought to ask on here :wall:
