How do you organise your linen cubpoard?

Hi ladies,

we are now a house of 4 and have a lot of linen largely for kids beds which I need to hang onto as we are about to enter the toilet training/night training zone!

I should confess I don't iron my linen, just fold taut and flatten by hand which still seems to yield even sized sheet packages.

My cupboard seems to be a real mess, especially with DH going through it :o

I have tried folding doona cases in pillow cases and sheet sets together which does not seem to sit well together as hoped.

I was thinking of tying sheets together with ribbon/string..

How do you organise your linen cubpoard?

Something I've meant to do is store each sheet set inside a pillowcase - so when I need to change the sheets, I just grab the pillowcase and that's the whole set inside. That might be easy for middle of the night changes too.

I wonder if it might be easy to store towels the same way too, in sets, rather than facewashers together, hand towels together...:think:

Ours can get so messy (and yes, it's people digging too!). What does your dh dig for? Perhaps they could go at the front, really easy to find, and then no digging needs to be done.

I've seen towels stored rolled up in cupboards, rather than folded, that looks good. :) I've also seen baskets used, like facewashers all in a basket, so they don't end up strewn around the shelf.

I put all the linen inside a pillowcase, seems to keep it all together!! It's all stacked up & I find it easy to grab which set I want. Towels are rolled & stacked.

I have always put the towels together in sets and find that works well.
As for sheets, I find that its easier putting them in sets too, according to size (all our sheets seem to be white or cream so are easily mixed up. I wrote SB, DB or QB on a corner of each, cos it can be hard to tell!). Can you label the shelf with a sticker e.g. SB, DB or QB so whoever is hunting through them can find them more easily? Oh, and put adult sheets out of reach of children, and children's ones down low so they can get to them more easily?
I quite like the idea of putting each set in a pillow case ...
I Space Bag spare quilts, blankets etc which saves heaps of space too - do it in sets so if you do need to use them, you have a quilt, cover and sheet set all in the one space bag.
My other fave trick is to wash, dry and put the same set of sheets back on the bed so I don't even need to go into the linen cupboard! :redface:

Lol Jleigh, that's my trick too, wash, dry, put back and don't dare to venture near the linen closet. :lol:
I found some of my clothes in there the other day, no idea how long they'd been in there...

Flat sheets together, fitted sheets together, pillowcases (ironed) together.
Towels - grouped by type and colour, so the stacks are even lol I am totally OCD about my linen press (thanks Mum! xo lol) Bath towels together, hand towels together, bathmats together and flannels together.

If you press your folded flat sheets with an iron after you have folded then you will find they flatten quite a ways without having to iron the sheet itself ;)

I have a seperate pile for facewashers & handtowels then I put set of towles together folded.

My linen is folded but in sets (ie: pillow cases, top & bottom sheet, doona cover)

Any blankets/sheet sets I am not currently using (ie: cot ones) I store in the plastic cover that other linen I have bought has come in.

I have nothing much to offer i am sorry, But i do fold the pillow cases into the flat sheet and then put that in the last fold of the doona cover so that i dont loose any bits, the only bit left out is the fitted sheet then

i am loving the suggestions about storing in a pillow slip... do you use a seperate one, or one from the set?
Also great suggestion about pressing the sheets after folding (thats my type of ironing!)

I also have trouble with the fitted sheets - they are impossible to fold down small..
I will often wash/dry and remake the bed to avoid the linen cupboard too, but this thread has inspired me a littel to try and sort it out again :)

There is a set of open shelves for the towels - the girls can help themselves
The facewasher go in a drawer in the bathroom.
Bedding goes on the upper shelf of the wardrobe of the bedroom it belongs in.
All spare bedding and extra are in the dresser in the spare bedroom.

Other than the towels (they are in the hall), everything is in room where it is used.

That's what we do too.

Towels and facewashers in the bathrooms.

Tablecloths/runners etc are in a cupboard in the dining room.

Our linen cupboard is still full though - beach towels, assorted computer hardware and wedding presents

I am another fan of storing my sheet sets and doona cover sets in their respective pillowcases. The fitted sheet, flat shet and one of the pillowcases are all folded and then stored in the other pillow case. I then have a shelf for the doona sets, and another for the sheet sets.

Blankets, elec blankets are all stored on the top shelf.. Overnight bags etc are all stored in the bottom of the linen closet.

Towels / face washers etc are all stored in a seperate linen cupboard in the laundry which you need to go through to get to the bathroom anyway..
