7 month old not sleeping day or night

If anyone has had a similar experience I would really love to hear about it...

My DS who is just 7 months only sleeps 2 20-40 min day sleeps during the day and the goes down for his big night sleep around 7pm. Wakes frequently overnight of which I feed back to sleep. Some nights like tonight he is just fully awake and happily playing. Every couple of days he does this night waking for about 2-3 hours. So in sometimes only gets around 10 hours sleep in a 24 hour period.

Some days he is a little grumpier then normal but for the most part he is quite happy and content. I am really starting to worry about his lack of sleep. Maybe he is really over tired and just has a really easy going temprement?? He is not quite crawling yet, did anyones baby who didn't sleep start sleeping better once they were crawling?

I am exhusted, I now have a 2.5 year old that won't sleep during the day, a baby who only sleeps 1 hour a day and then awake all night. Suggestions on how I might fix this would be really good.

DD does the 2-3 20-40 minute naps during the day, goes to bed at 8-9pm and wakes around 7am. She is also prone to the 2am party. I usually bring her to bed with me after the first wake up, then feed her back to sleep for the rest (usually 3-4 wake ups per night). If she is in party mode, I put her in bed with us but ignore her. She happily wriggles and squirms and eventually falls asleep. I am hesitant to get up with her because I don't want her to think that it is alright to get up in the night time.

DS is the same age as your older child and he gave up his day nap a few months ago.

I have heard a lot of babies start sleeping better around the 8-9 month mark, I live in hope...

Im soooooooooo over it!!!! Lucy will go down and then wake and its as if she doesn't WANT to sleep anymore! She crys or has to be attached to my BOOB the hole night.
I really believe she's teething but MY GOSH there has to be something to knock her out through the night!:pray:

Yep, I'm going to jump on the bandwagon too. My 7mo does the 30-40 min nap thing. She had been having one longer sleep of 1 1/2 to 2 1/4 hours more recently but in the last few days that seems to be out the window, along with any notion of an afternoon sleep at all some days.

She goes down at around 7 at night, and having slept right through til a feed at 4am for ages, for the last 6 weeks or so her night waking is getting more and more frequent. She usually resettles quite easily and sleeps til 7-7.30 but 1 morning in every 4 or so (this morning) she'll wake at 5.30 and refuse to go back. At that point I always take her in our bed so that I can doze while she bashes our noses/pulls our hair etc!

I'm holding out for crawling because I think that may well help, but I fear it could get worse before better. I just keep reminding myself that 'this too shall pass'!

Well we had a breakthrough with the sleep. I did a couple of things all at the same time so not really sure which one helped.

I have put DS back into my bed day and night for sleeps. Feed to sleep lying next to him and no grobag, just put a doona on the bottom of his legs. Everyday his sleep has been getting better and yesterday he had 2 x 2 hour sleeps. Hasn't done that since around 4 months which I think is when I started putting him in the grobag. I am gradually going to try to put him back into his cot for day sleeps without grobag and put a little cot quilt on him.

I hope all you girls are getting a bit more sleep with your little ones.

Just bumping this thread as my 7 month old is doing the exact same thing. She is lucky to have two 40 min naps a day (yesterday she just had one nap :o )

She goes down around 7pm then wakes at least every 40 mins until about midnight then if I'm lucky will sleep in 2 hourly stretches. If it's a bad night she wakes every 40 mins looking to feed all night.

Day naps are in the sling or in arms - I cannot put her down at all during the day. She co-sleeps at night - happily feeds off to sleep but wakes constantly.

i am beyond tired. Any tips for getting her to sleep longer? It doesn't matter where or how she falls asleep she just can't stay asleep. She is also tired - constant eye rubbing when she wakes at night and she just cries and cries until I feed her. :help:

Well we have gone back and forth with the sleep thing for DS. He is now 8 months and crawling, so things have changed again.

The one thing I did was to record exactly what he was doing and when. I recorded every feed, what time he went to sleep, exactly how long. I noticed after a couple of days that he actually had a routine, but being busy with my older DD I hadn't really noticed it. So he now goes for his first sleep 10:15am and for his second around 2:30pm. I feed him to sleep each time, then put him in his cot. Somedays he just does the two 40 min sleeps, other days he stays asleep longer. If he really seems tired by the afternoon and his morning sleep got interrupted, I hold him for his afternoon sleep and he normally stays asleep for an hour or so.

I am now being a bit kinder to DS by trying to stay at home for his sleeps or make sure if I have to go out that he can sleep in the car or pram at his normal sleep time.

Night time, he now does stretch out for about 2 - 3 hours between feeds. I haven't done anything different, co-sleeps and feeds whenever he wants.

I hope your little one starts sleeping better soon. It is so frustrating when they won't sleep.
