When did you decide ? (plus a bit of a vent)

When did you decide to start the process of IVF? How did you feel about starting? How long were you ttc b4 starting ivf? How long did it take to get a bfp and what procedure did you have (ivf, iui icsi?)

Yesterday and today I have just had this feeling of 'IM SO OVER TTC' I dont want to do it anymore.

I dont want to do accupuncture or take supps anymore. But I'm struggling to come to terms with the fact that we will not be able to conceive naturally and will have to do so in a clinic.

I also can't bring myself to say out loud 'We will make an appointment and see a fs as soon as we can' in the hope that it will happen - but I know its not gonna happen naturally which is upsetting.

ATM there are like 5 ppl in my close family that are UTD and don't deserve to be and its unfair.

I made my mind up to start IVF after ttc 12months and then knowing we had problems. If I didn't know what our problems were I don't think the thought of IVF would have crossed my mind.

Then the problem was although 2 FS said I would need IVF (they were through a hospital when I was an inpatient) I have had trouble getting a Gyno to refer me saying I should try longer because of my age and previous fertility. So it has been put back and back until they see an acceptable amount of time has passed. Its so frustrating. The latest Gyno I am seeing and sticking with told me to come back when I am in my mid 30's. That is 8years away. So we are squeduled to start in September this year finally.

Oh and I am going through a Gyno not a FS as I am isolated and this is the easiest option for us and our situation. Its not ideal but what we have to do.

I agree it is absolutely frustrating to be trying so hard to have a baby and others around you fall easily, particularly when their lifestyle is less than ideal.

To answer your question, I went off the Pill when I was 27. When I didn't conceive after a year I went to a FS. I found out I had PCOS at that point. However it wasn't until we went to an IVF clinic when I was 30 and found out that DH had azospermia that we realised that we would not fall pregnant naturally.

We tried IUIs, however I decided to move to IVF once I was given advice on here that the chances were less and less of this working after age 35 . We started our first round of IVF in 2008. I received my BFP in 2009 at age 40.

So, in total, it took 11 years to conceive a child. However, as you are probably aware, our situation is different from others using AC, due to the use of a donor. Most of the waiting was taken up in deciding whether we would have a donor child and then waiting for a donor to step forward. So really we are not a typical example.

Seachange - 11 years?? I could not begin to imagine the suffering you endured in that time! All the credit to you for remaining strong. I don't know if I'd be strong enough to last that long, I really don't ..

After my little vent earlier, and a cry I think we will still wait until Sept to see how we've gone and start with iui's. They are less invasive unlike ivf.

Sweetheart, the hardest part of LTTTC is watching others around you fall pregnant, especially when you perceive it as "undeserved." At one point I knew 14 friends and family who were either UTD or had just given birth. FOURTEEN! I was sick with anger and frustration and grief. Unfortunately I don't know that LTTTC ever leaves you either - I recently became very upset after being told that a friend had fallen pregnant within 3 months of TTC - despite being pregnant myself, it still hurts. Big :hug: for you.

In answer to your question, I went off the Pill in June 2006. We were told that DH's sperm were wonky in about September 2007. We decided to try some natural ways of improving his sperm count and quality, and with a few other commitments getting in the way (organising a wedding, studying, work stuff), we started our first IVF treatment in December 2008. By the time we received our BFP, it was September 2009. By the time I give birth, it will have been 4 years since I stopped the Pill.

If you're tired of TTC, it might be worth asking for some tests (if you haven't already) because getting some answers might help you make decisions about if/when you try IVF and what sort of treatment options are available. And seeing a FS doesn't commit you to anything, but it might give you some options to discuss, look for information, and decide on the next course of action.

Sometimes i read stories on BB and ask myself what I am complaining about when so many other people have ttc for years!

I think further testing until all possibilites are ruled out is just what I'm going to order!
