Mine has lots of outside pockets that I find really handy - stuck the nappies in one, drink bottle in another. I can put my purse and keys in another and ditch the handbag!!!

I'm going to preface this with - I am not one of those organised mothers who is prepared for everything...rarely even truely prepared for anything.
So with that size is a big thing for me. I'm a wallet and keys girl, I don't carry my own bag, let alone a suitcase for everyone else. I wanted something that held the essentials but wasn't heavy as lead when full.
I have had several now and am currently using an old handbag that hardly saw the light of day. It's a better size.
I found that hand bags with pockets annoyed me because stuff always ended up jumbled anyways so I preferred a nappy bag without too many.
Think about how you tote your stuff round now and that will give you an idea of what you need.
What suited me was a big bag in the car and a little bag to sling in the pram - so I technically had what I needed, but I just didn't have to lug it around.
Sorry that was a bit of a ramble ....
I have ended up with a Ju-Ju-Be purchased from littledudesanddivas.
They are the best planned out nappy bags I have found and have funky designs which I love...I am not really a plain jane person in that respect. I love that they have lots of well planned pockets on the inside for nappies (that actually fit cloth nappies in as well not just sposies). And they have an awesome range of accessories. I am loving their bottle rockets for going out and also the dummy case cos I can loop it and clip it on to the outside and the dummy is always within reach then and keeps it clean. I also went a bit overboard and got the matching wallet which I am also loving the design of and have had so many comments fromwhen out about where did I get my wallet.
Oh and I got the backpack design....I had bought the Be All and Packabe second hand of a lady and decided defintley the pacakabe was the better design so sold both of them and bought a packabe and accesories new in one the new designs that better suited a boy child (I had bought a pink one secondhand!)
I can recommend littledudesanddivas for great service and reasonable shipping from overseas and they throw in little extras and coupons etc.....
Can you tell i like jujube!!! LOL
Oh and another thing, they are designed to be machine washable so if you get pooh anywhere which is bound to happen you just chuck it in the machine...i have tried it and they are defintely washable which is awesome, and they wont fade out in the wash like some of the cotton fabric bags (think Isoki, oioi etc)
The only other bag I liked was possibly the Isoki but has no where near the organisation of the jujube...it is more of a tote bag....
i got given a napy bag, and while i was very grateful for the gift, i HATE it :( DH wont let me get another coz i 'already have one' its not set up very well. Its got a flap that goes over the top ITMS and its got a divider length ways in the middle.
Im atm, looking for a hand bag that is big enough to put her essential things in, coz im not a fan of lugging lots of things around.
I do agree with an AP that pockets on the outide of a bag are a good idea :)
I also have a bag in the car that stays in the car, has a towel and face washer, some nappies and back up clothes, JIC that way i dont have to carry around too many extra clothes with me.
Thanks for all the help
I know i dont want one with a flap lol
Im still unsure about size
I dont want one thats too big but want to get everything in the one bag so i dont need a handbag
I like a nappy bag that doesn't look like a nappy bag.
Check out the Il Tuttos, they have heaps of different sizes and they don't look like nappy bags.
I havethe Mia in a tan colour, and it clips onto my pram, which I really love.
They are so many around, to suit all budgets and tastes, I am sure you will find something.
I have a Oi Oi hobo type bag, Its great as it has 1 main section and then only a few little spots in side for keys and phone etc. Pockets on end of bags for water bottle or what ever you want to put in them.
I did have a target $30 that had a flap over the top and I just didn't like it not sure why!
Good luck
I had an Oioi which had lots of great accessories (mat, bottle holder, wipe holder etc) but I found the bag wasn't organised enough inside so I was just rooting around in a big mess for what I needed. Also it wasn't very pretty to look at and I was missing my handbags. So I got a Vanchi cosmopolitan online somewhere in a beautiful cream colour (I had to search high and low for the colour that I wanted). It looks like those expensive leather designer ones but is about $120 I think. I think they are an Australian company. I LOVE it, it has 6 internal pockets so I know where everything is and it looks like a nice handbag so I don't mind carrying it around. It doesn't have pram clips but the long strap slings over the pram and is fine (and probably less fiddly than the oioi clips) Also the accessories are really pretty fabric (but I still use the oioi ones too).
I wish I had done some research before I bought the oioi one (in a fit of hormonal "must have everything ready in case he comes early" lol) and found one that I actually liked in the first place. You use it a lot so you might as well find one that you like the look of- it is your new permanent accessory! (plus baby and baby vomit on the shoulder lol)
That is such a great idea to carry the "just in case" stuff in the car (extra clothes, washer etc), I just have everything in the one bag... now why didn't I think of that!
I got the strider plus nappy bag free with the pram and it is awesome!!!
especially since we use cloth, u can fit so many more nappies into it!
i carry in the one bag, my phone, purse, diabetes kit, keys, 4-5 cloth nappies, a couple of sposies, my wetbag, a formula dipenser, a big jar of moogoo and a change of clothes!! and theres room for more too. hepas of pockets for things and comes with a few clip on bags too, has 2 thermo pockets at each end.
its not the most attractive of bags but its so good
hmm very good thread, atm i am looking, well since seeing a REALLY nice bag that would have worked as a nappy bag, i have been searching for one that isnt too expensive but doesnt look like a handbag. so far not too successful...
i have nappy wallet i made, one i bought thats dF friendly and was just planning on using one of my 5million handbags... but any excuse to buy another bag?
leaving a bag in the car is an awesome idea!!!!!!!! i dont think that would occured to me.
Mmm, I'm a nappy bag addict hun! I have four. But one that I use most of the time (Nine West) followed closely by another (from a nice baby shop, can't remember the brand). My Silver Cross one lives in the boot of the car, carrying spares of just about everything, should I ever get stuck, or run out. And the last one is the one I used for my pram with DS1, I will use it again, just not ATM cos I'm not using the pram much.
I love lots of pockets, inside and out. That way I can organise the bag to my hearts content, and know where everything is quickly. I DEFINITELY don't want to take two bags with me anywhere, a nappy bag HAS to fit everything in. Once DS1 was about 15 months I started using really big handbags instead of a nappy bag. I had a CR one that I loved, it was really great!
Good luck choosing, and have fun! Can't wait to see it :D
