Our DS is almost 15 months and around 10kg, and is still rear facing in his car seat.
I know rear-facing is safer, so have kept him facing that way. Our seat says it can handle up to 12kg rear-facing.
Just wondering what others have done? Should I keep DS rear-facing as long as possible?
I turned DS1 at 14 and 1/2 months, he could have stayed longer but i was finding it hard being preg and getting him in and out of car.
I would recommend leaving him rearward for as long as you can manage it and as long as he's not screaming to be seated forward facing :) Don't put your back out to keep putting him in rearward facing.
If he's still happy rear facing then I would keep him there as long as you can!
We turned DD#2 at about 12 mths I think, it was getting hard to put her in backwards!

but..
when they are rear facing, can you sit the cahir up so its not lying back so far? or doesnt it work that way? DD when she's sitting in it (its still in the NB postion) she tries to sit up, so was wondering can i sit the chair up anymore than what it is? ITMS?
when their facing backwards there is only one position stevie

He's happy enough rear-facing for now, even if it is a little awkward getting him in and out. I doubt he'll be 12kg any time soon too, so he'll probably still be that way for a while.
Stevie: That's a good point. My DS doesn't really sit back in his seat. Most of the time he is trying to sit more upright. I wonder what that would mean in a crash, cause their head would have all that force going back into their seat?
DS2 was nearly 2 by the time he was too big for rear-facing, and even then it was more length than weight. He has always been small for his age though. It's great that your DS seems happy enough - it's easier when they like the safe option!
Definitely keep him there as long as he is happy :) I think DD1 was around 13 months when we turned her, and I would love to keep her in rearward facing, but I don't think she would let me - plus she's 12kg now.
I'm planning on keeping DD2 that way as long as I possibly can.
I kept DD in reverse for as long as possible, until she was 20 months and hit 12kg, she then lost weight and was sitting under the limit and I had thought about putting it back again, but weighed her the other day and she regained the 1/2kg and is back to 12 kg :lol:
DS was 19mths when we turned him. He was getting close to 12kgs so we thought it was probably time
Can I just say I am absolutely rapt that everyone is extending the time they keep their children backward facing. When I had DD I was the only one who thought it was the best thing to do. And when I had Seth I was one of few. So this thread makes me so happy :) I just can't wait for the govt to finally get behind the motion!
