Cost to make bangle smaller??

Does anyone have an idea how much it might cost to have a bangle made smaller? ballpark figure? I can't think it would be much as they're just be cutting it and re-soldering, its solid silver.

But i was quite shocked a while ago when i had a set of 3 silver rings which sit together, i needed each one enlarged, and they were so thin, it was a small amount of silver but it cost me $90! which is more than the rings cost, but they were sentimental so i had it done.

I just got this bangle, and its just a bit too big, i can see it slipping off. I just don't want to end up spending more than i paid for it.

What kind of bangle is it? Could you take it back and get a smaller one? I think that would be easier and cheaper than having one resized.

I have no idea how much it would cost though, sorry.

I had it custom made from a shop on Etsy, hand stamped with the quote. So it came from America and although i'm sure she'd be happy to make it smaller it wouldn't be worth the postage, plus it took ages to get here, i'm not sure i trust sending it back and waiting again.

It's wearable, but it would slip off in the shower. I can wear it up my arm but i don't think that looks very good?

I think it might depend on where you take it. If you go to one of the franchised places (Zamels, Bevilles etc), they have to send it away.

Do you have a smaller, independent jeweller around? If so, take it there and see what they say.

I have alot of antique/custom stuff and I find a jeweller by trade rather than business is worth their weight...

Ah OK, yeah I agree I wouldn't send it back either, it would take forever.

ah i was about to say if you purchased it from here the shop wouldn't charge you any extra but seeing it's overseas yep forget sending it back ...

i agree with Lulu take it to an independent jeweller not a franchise ... better to speak with the actual person whom is going to fix it for you rather then a salesgirl at the jewellery/repair counter i in the past find they guess the answers to questions i ask and therefore worry about the result of what my jewellery is going to look like when i get it.

At franchise places you never know if it's the apprentice jeweller having a ' go ' at fixing it for you (??)

Another thing too either way it's gonna cost so take it to the ' better ' service and get your monies worth there !!

I did end up doing that (with the rings last time) as it is so much better to see the jeweller directly. I took it in today and i'm so glad i did. The guy was completely honest with me and told me that the heating would actually fade the darkness of the letters and the amount i need taken out will mean loss of the wording. So basically i can't get it smaller :( But i loved how honest he was as i popped in to a franchise after just to see and they said no worries that they'd send it off!

I'm really upset as i've waited so long for this to arrive and it was supposed to be a constant positive reminder for myself. But it's just too big. So i'm going to have to try and sell it to fund myself getting another one made.

I guess its an expensive lesson for myself :(

I don't know if it would work with bangles, but a friend has a ring that was a bit big, and instead of making it smaller they put some "bumps" on the inside. Is there anyway a jeweller could do this for you, or add a layer of something to the inner part of the bangle? Maybe a layer of lacquer if heating with silver is not an option? So in effect, making the circumference of the inside less, and the bangle thicker...

M - What is the diameter of the bangle? how much would you sell it for? I might be interested ;)

I was going to say that yesterday, that having it made smaller would mess the lettering up, but I didn't know how much you needed taken out.
