hey everyone, my little man has been pooing blood and the pead thinks he has a food allergy. She gave my DH two tins of formula to try Elecare & neocate, im confused as to which one to try first?? she didn't say anything and the receptionist said i will have to make an appt to see her with regards to this.
I don't want to start one then try the other one as it would upset his stomach?
any advice would be great!!!!!

Both Elecare and Neocate are Elemental formulas. Our boy is on Neocate. I think it may be a good thing that you have two to try because they taste and smell revolting! It is quite likely that your little one may not like the taste of one, but may take to the other. In my experience with Elemental formulas, I doubt very much that they will cause any tummy upset simply because all of the milk protein has already been broken down into its elemental form: amino acids.

Thankyou all! i just tryed him on the neocate one and he didn't really care about the taste lol. I'll see how he goes on it today if he doesn't like it i'll try him on the other one.
This is so stressful i felt like i was just dumped with these formulas with no info on it.
So glad he was ok with the taste. Our little man was also partial to it, thankfully :) The one up side to Neocate is that if they spew, it doesn't stain yours or their clothes like regular formula does! You do, however, smell like rotten potatoes!
Hopefully you will notice a change in him soon - we did within 24 hours :)
Check out the Neocate website - there is a heap of information on allergies and the actual product. Really, really informative. There is also a Facebook support group where people discuss their experiences etc.
Elemental formulas can also be used to bake and cook with, so are quite versatile. I make custard for our little man and he loves it.
I know how awfully stressful this is, especially if they haven't equipped you with much of the necessary information. What is worthwhile remembering is that 80% of babies grow out of the intolerance in their first year of live. 95% grow out of it by the age of 5. So here is hoping that both our little men are free of it soon.
By the way, you now get Neocate LCP which is fortified with essential fatty acids (for brain development). When you get your prescription filled, you may want to request this as opposed to the regular Neocate.

Thankyou so much everyone :) he is doing so much better on the neocate and is finally gaining weight. What a stressfull time it has been! life is good i will def check out the facebook page thanks for that.
