2yo speaking in 10-15 word sentences.. normal?

My DS (who is almost three) speaks a lot, in sentences 10-15 words in length. Eg "I want you to watch me while I get up here and bend backwards" or "please mum can I use the computer because I want to play elmo games, I do mum, I DOOOOOOOOOO!" or "I don't want to eat rice bubbles for breakfast because I want to eat cornflakes today" or "do we have to be quiet now because DD is going to sleep?" etc.

Last night his dad came home and described a problem that he had experienced at work. DS relayed the whole situation back in a question (as in "Dad did you do X and Y and then get stuck on Z and then fixed it because you did A at work today?")

Is this normal?? He will be 3 next month. I don't know many other almost three year olds to 'compare' with (I don't like that word.. not meaning to create a competition.. just wondering if this is within the scope of 'normal'). What kind of sentences is your almost three year old saying?

Yep that sounds on the range of normal. We have just-on three year olds at work who speak a bit like that. :)

Probably the more advanced end of normal, but normal! My DD speaks well and says stuff like that. Half the time I'm asking her to stop talking for a while! LOL!

every child is different hon. Some speak early whilst others walk and run before hand.

Id be far more happier with a talker then a non talker ;)

Yep, sounds pretty normal to me :) We have a few kids at playgroup in this age group and they talk the same way.

I agree, that's pretty normal. My DS1 is 2.5 this month and talks pretty much like that, maybe not quite as advanced just yet.

He sounds advanced (for a boy) - but about on par for some girls.

So maybe he's just a very clever boy! You must talk to him a lot (that's where they learn it from!) - good on you! :clap:

Sounds like you have a little smarty-pants on your hands!! DD1 is 3 in August and she's talking about the same as you describe - everyone says she's a great talker and strangers are surprised when I say she's not 3 yet, but then she's always been a bit ahead on her milestones so DH and I are used to it and see it as normal. 'Normal' is such a huge scope, I think it's great that your little dude has such great comprehension and grasp of language at this age, it certainly makes my life easier being able to understand DD1 rather than her and I yelling nonsense at each other because she can't say what she wants and cracks it!

I have an almost 3 yo and it sounds pretty normal to me.

DH told my DD1 about the water cycle last week while he was drying her off after a bath, not thinking much of but she has been reciting it to us for the last week 'water goes down the drain, then to the water treatment plant, it gets cleaned, then goes out to sea, it gets warm and becomes clouds, then rains into dam and comes back in our tap' :rofl: DH was a bit shocked how much she listened! I think we have to start being careful what we say around her now :)

My DD started talking underwater at around 1 and never shut up....

i would think it is 'normal'.... my 3 year old dd started talking like that from around 2.... i think its normal, but alot of the kids her age were barely speaking, which i would think is more 'abnormal', but the only thing i have to base it on is my dd, and also what my mums tells me about us kids when we were young.... we were all chatterboxes at 2, both of my brothers and me... from what i have seen they all (generalisation, but most) end up the same when they are about 3 or 4 anyway.... the slower ones catch up, and the ones who spoke early i suppose plateau in a way...

Our little miss talks like that at home too..I find it sooooo exhausting! It starts from the moment she opens her eyes in the morning until her little head hits the pillow at night!

Thanks every one :) Glad to hear it's 'normal'. Haha, yes sometimes I ask if we can rest our ears for a while. I love hearing him speak though. I'm just amazed at some of the things he says. Aww, how cute all our LOs are. Can we freeze time???
