Problems with Y Chromosome?

Hi girls,

Just thought id pop in and see if anyone else has a similar situation.

We had our first appointment with the FS today. DH has had 2 tests so far that have shown no sperm at all present in the sample. We thought it was just a blockage but that has been ruled out today and we have been left with some rather upsetting news.

The Dr got some info from both of us, how long we have been TTC etc, then took DH off to examine him. As soon as she walked back in, she said it was def not a blockage.... my heart sank :crying:

She said she thinks DH has an abnormality with his DNA and he is missing part of the Y chromosome in his DNA. He has had 4 blood tests done, and we wont get the results of them for 4 weeks :wall:

They have said if two of them come back with nothing then there is nothing that they can do and we will need to use a sperm donor, if they come back ok then they will need to go in and see if they can aspirate them out and use them for IVF but the chances are not good.

So off we go on our holiday to Greece for three weeks next weeks feeling abo****ley gutted....waiting for the 10th June to get our life changing results :(

If anyone else has been though something similar then I would love to hear from you.

Amy_jellybean I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. What devastating news. I hope its something they can get some sperm out and make your long awaited bub.

There is a condition I have heard of which affects the Y chromosome which means no sperm is made or is very immature. Usually its only diagnosed when a couple have not fallen pregnant and tests picks it up. It is a inherited disorder I think starts with K but I can't remember the name. I have everything crossed for you and your DH that its not the case and they can make you a baby using your DH sperm. If not I hope in time that you and your DH have a family using a donar. Like Ahurani I am devastated for you both and hope the FS isn't right about what she thinks might be the problem.

hi i know exactly how you are feeling..

My dh and i have been ttc for about 2/12 years at least, back in July 2008 we found out my dh had klinefelter syndrome which is an extra x chromosone and all it does is affect male fertility. We where absolutely devastated but still held hope that he may have some swimmers in there.

After several attempts at ivf cycles which where cancelled due to me being a poor responder we eventually in Sept last year had a successful cycle where we got 6 eggs but when they did a biopsy of my dh they found only very immature sperm which is no good. As you can imagine we where shocked and gutted couldnt believe our only option was donor sperm, i had hung in there believing all was going to be ok couldnt believe that the gods could be so cruel. We tried absolutely everything in that time to get those swimmers moving stopped smoking, drinking, accunpuncture, healings, chinese herbs you name it my dh did it which i couldnt believe he was amazing.

Unfortunately for us it wasnt meant to be. But i have heard of people out there that have been given there miracle so dont lose hope it can happen.

We have changed clinics 4 times for different reasons and we are now getting treatment in Brisbane and using donor sperm. It took us both a while to get our head around using donor sperm but we are both now at a good place with it and realise it is the only way we will get our miracle babies.

I have also now been diagnosed with a chromosone disorder as well which they only picked up on after 4 clinics! So both dh and i have chromosone disorders very rare so once again i fell to pieces when i was diagnosed but had to let it go and not let it get me down.

I am now in my 2ww after my first successful cyle have BT next wed to see if any have stuck! I refuse to let all of the drama we have been thru stop us from having our miracle babies so we will keep trying.

I have really learnt thru all of this though that my dh and i are really blessed either way because we have each other and some people dont even have that so we have a new respect for each other and it has definately bought us closer.

Hang in there it is a very bumpy ride and you will both be dealing with it in different ways but it does get easier and you just keep getting back up on your feet.

In the meantime try to keep smiling and enjoy the time you have with your dh in greece sounds wonderful and a good distraction.

Dont lose hope.

I wish you the best of luck in your two week wait love, it sounds like you and your DH have been through more than enough.

DH and I have spoken about sperm donation and at the moment I dont think I would be ready to do it. We definately want to exhaust all our other options first...only time will tell.
