What chores/jobs do your children do?

I'm making up star charts for the kids. I have basic things like make bed & clean teeth on there for all 3 of them. Different ones for different ages obviously.
Question is, what jobs are your children expected to do every day? Mainly kids around 5 & 8. Besides the every day tidying rooms etc.

I have very stubborn kids, who will just sit & refuse to do anything. The 5 year old is the worst at the moment. She'd rather go to bed & cry than take her school bag to her room! So we've decided if everything is done at the end of the weeks the girls would each get $5. They'd lose 50c for anything they didn't do. Hoping this works & they start doing as they're told :rolleyes:

I have issues with chores here...i wish i had started earlier with DS he is 10 now but doesnt really have any set chores besides feeding the fish. I need to learn some patience and teach him to do some more jobs around the house...just little things but its hard to decide what??

Well on the girls list I have cleaning the loungeroom floor every arvo (its mostly their stuff anyway!), & DD1 puts the clean dishes away. Other things on there are making beds, cleaning teeth, tidying bedrooms. I'm thinking they need something else each. But not sure what. Maybe now its winter they can bring some wood in each night, but I don't think there's many bits out there they can lift at the moment... Hmmm.... Maybe that is enough.

Well mine are all under 4 but we have started on chores already. Ds1 who is 3.75 has to bring the bins in (with my or Dhs help ofcourse), feed the dog, tidy up toys and help unpack the dishwasher. Ds2 only has to clean up his toys and usually help with anything we ask (like putting his rubbish in the bin, putting his clothes in the dirty laundry hamper). Ds3 just "helps" but eventually he will have set chores eventually too.

Atm no money is given for chores; Ds1 is saving up "chore time" for a hermit crab.

The biggest problem I have at the moment, is that DD1 is 3 whole years older than DD2, but she believes they should be treated exactly the same. Its driving me nuts! A 5 year old can't put dishes awa, an 8 year old can. I ask for DD1's help with something, like getting her to put DS in the shower or bath & she winges that she has to do everything & DD2 has to do nothing :rolleyes: Its a hard life!

My DD is the same as yours - she would rather spend more time and effort avoiding work than she would expend actually doing it. We call her Lazy Lucy LOL ;) and I gave up long ago trying to encourge her to help out by using a rewards system or pocket money because she will quite happily forgoe money or treats if it means she doesn't have to help around the house. So after a big screaming match one day where we both totally lost the plot, she is getting better. She understands that when you live in a house with other people that you are expected to do your fair share of the work. So everyone gets in and cleans communal living areas together and everyone is responsible for their own room inc making beds. They also put their clothes away once they have been folded (Maybe that is the extra thing you can add?) and they have to unpack their schoolbags each day. Luckily I have DS1 who is a cleaner LOL and DS2 is going to be a cleaner too I think. DS1 will go above and beyond his 'set' chores and help out DH on the farm, shifting sheep, doing welding, cutting burrs, anything DH is doing that he can help with really. But he also gets a heck of a lot more pocket money and treat items too. I don't see it as favouritism that he gets more than the girls, I see it as him doing work that he gets paid for kwim?

My kids feed the animals, unload the dishwasher, make sure their bathroom is presentable, take the rubbish out, bring in wood and make sure their stuff is away.

Clothes, thats on there too. Forgot about that! Yeah, I think thats definetely enough. I have been getting them to do most of those things for a while, just not regularly & alot of the time it doesn't happen. They both have their own pita ways of avoiding it.
I love it when I ask them to tidy the loungeroom & an hour later I'm yelling & screaming & loosing it, but DH asks them & its done in 15 minutes :rolleyes:
They do alot more for him too, coz its usually outside stuff, thats different.

We have hte same issue with the loungeroom floor clover. I am ready to go bezerk!

I know you said around the ages of 5 and 8 but I thought I would stick my neck in and tell you (and others) what my 2 do.

DS#1 - 3.5yrs old
~ put away the bath toys
~ Help set the table
~ put his shoes away in the shoe box
~ put his dirty clothes in his dirty washing basket each night
~ PJ's under his pillow each morning
~ bring in the dogs bowl after dinner *new - I just added this one yesterday.
~ help pack away the toys each night

DS#2 - 2 yrs old
~ help set the table
~ put his shoes in the shoe box
~ put his dirty clothes in his dirty washing basket each night
