We just moved to a new area and DD1 has started Kindy in the public school across the road. We know no one in this new area and are too far away from where we used to live to visit old friends. So everytime I drop or collect DD1 from Kindy and am looking at the other mothers of girls trying to see if we could be friends. Someone for my daughter and someone for me. Am I a freak or do other mothers also look for friends this way?
That is definitely not freakish behaviour!
I would do the same, or should I say doing the same.
Years ago before kids my friends and I used to joke, "we are not accepting applications at the moment" and then giggle after a few glasses of wine, as in we cannot possible fit in another friend.
Ohhhhh how this has changed since having kids...
I am trying and trying, have gotten there ever so softly, it just takes time.
yeah i do the same but why limit your self to only girls?
i want my kids to be friends with who ever not base it on the sex of the person.. :)
The thing is my DD is really scared of boys for some reason. She is a really shy child and doesn't mix with other children so well although loves attention from other girls and is so proud of herself if she actually played with one. When the boys talk to her she just turns away or gets really anxious. That's another reason I really would like to make friends with someone in her class so that she can have someone in the class she is close to and who can maybe teach her a few things about socialising. Obviously I'm not very good at it! LOL!:
Dont say it is hard.. I am relying on our little one to help me make some friends!
I remember my mum becoming friends with my friends parents in kindy because I'd always want to go to my friends house. She would then 'have' to talk to the parents and she made friends with a few of them (not all of them)
Good luck with this, I have never had much luck making friends with other mummies in the school yard...maybe I'm a scary looking mumma, maybe I don't dress like all the other mummies, but anyhow, keep broadcasting your intent to find good friends, and eventually you will stumble across each other, somehow! :)
I do this aswell. A small group of the mums from my daughters class are friendly to me but I wouldnt say we're "friends" :(
I actually really feel like the odd one out with the other parents, I'm always standing on my own but if I get the courage to stand in their group while we wait for the kids to come out I stand there out of the conversation which is really enbarrassing & depressing. I've actually started doing the "kiss & ride" so I dont have to get out of the car at all :(
Good luck, from what I've seen with the other parents at the school who get along, it looks like some people can find great friendships through meeting other parents at their childs school. Hopefully you'll be one of them :)
There's still hope for me, I havent entirely given up, I'll start trying to mingle again sometime in the future ;)
just today i accosted the mumma of DDs bestie at creche and scored a phone number LOL! :dance: she also looked really happy and we are organising a playdate for all the kids to get together!
so, i guess some may think it's crazy but i reckon it's worth a shot lol!
I dont search for friends, but I do take note of who DS really gets along well with, then strike up conversation with the mum. This has worked once so far, DS and another little boy stripped naked at the local play cafe, well...that got us mothers talking LOL Since then we have swapped numbers, and they came to DS birthday party last weekend, we regularly meet up at the playcafe too. I am really hoping that this will keep happening now that DS is starting kindy :)
I wish people carried around signs saying whether they are open to friendship or looking for friends for their kids. It would be so much easier than trying to stick your head into a conversation. Urgh!!! I hate trying to make friends! Quite like having them though. LOL!
