need more night sleep. baby is waking for 4 hours just keeps waking up again and again when resettled even if fed. how do i get more night sleep

sleeps daytime every 2 hours for an hour. sometimes bit more
would getting him onto only 2 day sleeps get him sleeping more at night
and how can i do that please.
or how do i get him having more sleep at night.
he is weaned and having solidsand formula regularly throughout his waking periods.

Just wondering, when you say he is weaned and having solids, is he having any milk/formula at all?
i was wondering the same thing..
remember sleep creates sleep, if he needs a sleep every 2 hours which is normal then only having 2 sleeps a day may be disasterous! he must need the day sleeps, what is he doing at night?
Of course every baby is different but at 6 months my baby still needed 3 sleeps per day. Shorter ones in the morning and afternoon and a big one after lunch (12-2pm). Personally, I think the best thing you can do is to follow baby's cues for when they want to sleep and try to see if a pattern or routine emerges from the times he/she goes down for a nap (ie. is it around 9am everyday?). Then try to pop baby to sleep at the same times during the day each day. Like Olive said, sleep creates sleep. Also, make sure you are feeding bubs enough too. If my DS doesn't get enough to eat during the day (solids and bottle) then he will still wake up in the night hungry. Even if he's not looking hungry, he gets a mid afternoon snack, to get enough calories in him for the day.
yes having bottle/formula a few times a day and solids usually both during every 2 hour waking time.

yes the real issue is the night waking.
so hes having solids every 2 hours??
id be cutting back the solids and offering a FF every 3 hours, offering a solid meal just once a day then gradually increasing that,
remember that milk is the most important meal, not solids at this age, solids is just for play at this stage. the solids may be upsettng his tummy too
Im not sure about feeding but V is 6 months and she has 3 day sleeps or I try to put her to bed after being awake 2 hours, she is usually grumpy and tired around that point anyway. She has 3 meals a day offered after milk and sometimes she will refuse to eat anything in one of those times.

Have you thought about ringing the maternal health nurse and asking about sleep school?
When my DS was 6 months he was having at least 3 naps a day, sometimes 4. It's really only been since about 9 months that we've consistently gotten down to 2 naps. They say that sleep breeds sleep, so I would focus on getting him to have good naps during the day which will hopefully result in good night sleeps. I also think that Olive's advice to formula feed every 3 hours during the day is good advice. A friend of mine was having terrible trouble with her DD sleeping at night (she would be up for every night between 12am and 4am). Her MCHN basically told her that she was feeding her enough, she upped her bottles from 3 to 5 during the day and her DD started sleeping through. Oh and it was amazing to see the change in her, she put on a lot of weight (in a good way) and has grown substantially in the 6 or so weeks since. It is really important to remember that milk is their main source of nutrition at this stage.
we have upped the meals and bottles in the last month and still getting woken up ongoingly for about 4 hours a night. he awakens easily after being settled.
have you had bubs checked by a dr for possible ear infections etc..?
how many bottles is he having in 24 hours?
