We've just discovered our first case of head lice. Can I please have suggestions for treatments?
I was really hoping I had them so I didn't have to go into work tomorrow :doh: but after a thorough search of both DH and I - we don't have any!

Fried Lice Moose works well and so does KP24 ,Conditioner and a lice comb which you can get from the chemist and comb the eggs out that way.. The Fried lice and KP24 in pink will kill the live lice but won't kill the eggs you will need to comb them out yourself.. Also put all your sheets etc in the wash but first soak with hot water and disinfectant because you will find you will keep getting them ... And remember that they jump onto clean hair so don't think LO is dirty ok :)
When sending LO to daycare or wherever get some lavender oil in water spray onto the hair and it will deter the headlice... I am a hairdresser know how to tackle these things straight away :)
With my girls, I just get the pyranel foam, for around $8 - $10 from the supermarket & leave it on over night. It says 5 minutes on the bottle, but IME thats not enough. They will survive through it. Overnight is good, & its not too strong for overnight, but strong enough to work. Then comb out the dead ones with a nit comb & wash.
You need to do it again a week later, coz by then eggs would've hatched.
AHhh hon...we're going through it now :( I found egg's in the boys hair last night. Put the mouse in (white can purple lid) and picked the egg's out..no lice were found.
J man stripped their beds and we washed them in hot water then put the in the dryer on hot.
I thne sprayed their beds and pillows with tea tree spray and checked their hair today many times for eggs (only found a few on mario's) and sprayed repelent spray in their hair. I washed all our hair with tea tree shampoo tonight.
Man im so itchy form it...grrrr so annoying

KP24 (and a couple of other brands) burnt the hec out of my head when I was young. Not saying that'll happen to your LO's but just so you know it can happen. :):
Lice don't discriminate, clean/ dirty/ long/ short hair.
They dont jump (lots of people think they do though), they need direct contact ie, touching heads/ a way to crawl onto the next head :)
I have heard of the Lavender thing but never tried it. We used to use a few drops of tea tree oil in a spray bottle, and spray the hair once or twice a week, which worked great to keep them away.
We never did find a treatment that worked really well :( But the lice treatments with tea tree oil worked best.
It's so horrible, I hope you can get rid of them quickly. :hug: *shivers* Just thinking about it is giving me the heeby jeebies.
I use a mixture of water with a few drops of tea tree & lavender oil as a spray every morning when I do the kids hair. Keeps the lice away, but doesn't kill them. I just need to remember not to get slack with it over the holidays, coz soon as I forget they have them again :rolleyes:
Thank you all for your replies. I have a friend who works for a Chemist (and who I trust) and she advised me on getting Moov. So we'll give that a go and wash all the sheets, etc with tea tree oil as a deterrent.

Moov is all natural from what I can remember. It didn't work the first time I used it though, so I didn't give it another chance. I've tried way too many products & got sick of spending so much money on them.

Just don't forget to wash hats, & soak hair bands & brushes. I just use boiled water for mine & as long as sheets go into the dryer, or sun after washing they should be ok. Hot wash might help too. I combed my girls hair onto a towel once & I washed it in cold water & hung it in the garage not thinking....the next day they were still alive on the towel & other things that were in the wash!! So I had to rewash & dryer dry!
They did a story on one of the current affairs shows about people who were sensitive to the chemicals in head lice treatments, and the only one that did not burn people was Thursdays Plantation Head Lice Gel. I found it in my local health food shop.:
We did the Moov treatment on him tonight... he HATED it :( Felt like I traumatised him :cry:
Has anyone heard of the Robi Comb? It's an electronic comb that 'zaps' the lice when you comb through the hair...
My old boss used to use it on her DD. Not sure how well it worked though. She always used a treatment as well.
