Ladies i need your help!
I am due with DS2 in August ;) but giving birth to DS1 i endured a painful 3rd degree tear, while its fully recovered due to lots of treatment i am just a little nervous about birthing DS2.
While my ob thinks i will be fine. I cant help but be put off, as i dont want to endure another tear like this!
Has anyone got any advice or stories birthing after a serious tear. ;)

I just had a baby a few weeks ago, my third. THis is the first time i did regular perineum massage for the last for weeks. At about six weeks I started using a peasized amount of copper ointment on there once a day and the last four weeks my partner or myself would pull out the skin and massage it. This was recommended by our midwife. I did not tear, no nicks, no grazes, no swelling, no bruises NOTHING. In fact the same day I had her, everything was back to normal, no stinging when I went to the loo nothing, it was like I did not even have a baby that day it was unbelievable. If you are not into doing the full on massage, you could just use the copper ointment it softens the skin.
Goodluck, it's a great idea to work through all those fears about tearing again, as it will help you in the labour to have let those pesky fear go.

I had a 3rd degree tear with DD1 and was nervous about DS's birth, but ended up with no tearing this time.
With DD I was leaning over a bean bag when I delivered, but this time my Ob suggested lying on my side to maybe slow things down a bit and it seemed to work. I did try the leaning over position again with DS, but it wasn't comfortable and tried the side position. Just needed someone to support my outside leg.
Was still a quick birth (just under 2 hours - DD was 2 hrs 50mins) but could walk back to the ward this time and recovery down there was heaps better ;)
I only had 2nd degree tears, but with both bubs, I was hopefull that I wouldn't get with #2 but I did,
I have considered doing things the other ladies have suggested.
If I have another Bub Allen mentioned he could give me some tips on avoiding tearing, so maybe send him a note and ask for some advice too.
