I think it might be time to Wean :-(

*cries* Breastfeeding hurts sooo much lately!

It al started a couple of weeks ago. DD bit me... Which has only just healed properly.

Now both nipples are SOSOSOSO sensitive. To the point i'm cringing when she feeds! I think might be Thrush?!? As she was just on ABs, pharmacy agrees, so have thrush treatment brought, 3-4 days ago... Usuing both in her mouth and on my nipples, but there still not any better!

I've changed how she attaches as well, doing more of a football hold (it helped with the tear)

:-( I don't want to give up, I have 3 more months to go to get to my goal! But it hurts sooo much! :-(

And I know DD doesn't want to give up either, she loves the booby, it's the one thing that settles her every time... :-(

Spoke to ABA, hmmm, last week, Lovely lady, was suggesting changing attachment and using pawpaw ointment same thing you gals suggested when I posted early :-)

No i haven't even thought about seeing a LC - Doh!

I suspected thrush at one stage and was also advised to wash all my bras with canesten wash. I hope you get it resolved very quickly!

I love our breatfeeding time - although the teeth I can do with out ;)

MummeNurse, if it is thrush there are few things to try. Firstly, which products did you buy? Many mums find that Daktarin oral gel combined with Daktarin cream for you, is the combination which works best. Also, thrush is a sign that your immunity is lowered (antibiotics is a big culprit for this), but things that help your immunity are great at this time - rest, good diet, low stress etc (hard with a baby of course, and even harder with older kids too!!), and of course probiotics. As thrush spreads, it is best to change sheets and towels often (daily for your towels if you can), and put a bit of white vinegar in the prewash to help kill the thrush. If there is thrush anywhere else in the family - nappy rash, tinea, jock itch, vaginal thrush for example, these will all need to be treated or you will all continue to cross-infect. Anything your baby puts in her mouth other than your nipple - eg bottle teat, cup, dummy, toys - will need to be boiled for at least 3 minutes. If you express, you will also need to sterilise the pump.

Also, I would avoid using any other cream/ointment except the daktarin. Creams etc can contribute to the moist environment in which thrush thrives. Also when you apply these, you risk contaminating the ointment left in the container so that next time you apply, you are exposing yourself to the fungus again.

Keeping your bra off while at home can help to avoid moistness and help it clear up more quickly, and if you use breast pads these need to be replaced very frequently.

The thrush has cleared up in DD mouth, there is no signs of it... and I think its cleared up on me, there not itchy or anything, just sensitive... It is like i have gone back to those foods newborns feeds...
Teeth is becomming an issue! My other boob has been attacked by the boob now :-( NOt Cool!

I've found that I have to be really careful with attachment when DS is teething. I try and stuff as much boob as humanly possible in - so that the teeth are spread over as wide an area as possible!
There have also been some people who have found that going back to feeding with pillows or lying down helps - so that bub's head is really well supported and that weight is not being used to attack you.

That's really good news that the thrush seems to have cleared. Pity about the teeth!! Biting is usually a temporary thing as they adjust to the new sensation of teeth in their mouth. Paying careful attention to positioning again can really help, and some mums find it helps to give them something cold to chew on just before a feed. If you do get bitten, sometimes it can help to give your DD's head a gentle push into your breast - this way she is unable to bite anymore, and it's unpleasant for her so can deter future biting.
