Hi girls,
I'm getting married in July and I just cant decide when to the stop the pill (we want to TTC ideally on the honeymoon ;)). If I continue on the pill I will be on the pill for two weeks on the day were getting married. I've heard its ok to stop half way through the active pills but I just don't know if I want to do that to my body.
Should I stop taking the pill the period two weeks before the wedding or halfway through the pack? :o
What are your thoughts or experiences?
If it was me I would finish the pack you will be on for the wedding, you don't know how your body will react and you certainly don't want your period on your wedding day. :)
We stopped the month before the wedding so I was only about 2 or 3 weeks when we got married. I still drank at the wedding and honeymoon so we didn't create suspicion... but i don't drink allot anyway. So it wasn't too big a deal.
If you stop halfway it's ok but you may end up with af on your honeymoon, not ideal! Your cycle prob won't be back to normal either as you don't ovulate on the pill. If you want to try for a honeymoon baby you would need to think about coming off the pill now.
I say finish up asap, and just use barrier protection (condoms) until after the wedding so you know you're safe on your wedding day and you don't get stuck with AF on your wedding/honeymoon! Best of luck, congrats on your wedding :D
I agree with Galmourcide, I'd stop now to give your body a bit of time to regulate itself as it could take a couple of months to return to normal ovulation. Don't get too dissappointed if you don't conceive on your honeymoon as there is only a small window of opportunity each month. It would depend on where abouts in your cycle you are when you get married. As a rough guide the "normal" 28 day cycle means you will ovulate around about day 14. So if you count the first day of period as day 1 you will ovulate (and be able to get pregnant) on day 14-ish. This is only a very rough guide, some people have 28 day cycles some have 20 and some 35 or more. Each of us is different and our cycles are unique to us. I'd heard from so many people about how it can take up to six months for your body to regulate its cycles again after being on the pill... I just want to say that you have to be ready for the other side, ie if your body does NOT take six months to regulate, then you may just end up pg earlier than you expected!!
I came off the pill about 4mths before we wanted to be pg, I had regular-ish (27-30 day) cycles almost straight away... DH and I used barrier protection up until about a month before we wanted to be pg, then that month we said "If it happens earlier than we wanted, so be it!" but it didn't happen until a month after.
The only thing about coming off the pill now is that your cycle will be unpredictable - even though mine we fairly regular almost straight away, I still could never be sure if I was going to be bleeding on day 27, 28, 29 or 30 - which could be un-fun for you on your wedding day!!!

speaking from experience - you do not want AF on your wedding day/honeymoon! I was one of those women who AF arrived a few days early from the stress/excitement of the occasion. But you cope!
If it were me, I'd stop at least the month before & give my body a chance to return to a natural state. And use condoms, of course... kids learn maths sooner or later! ;)
I reckon stay on the ppill til after the wedding. You want to be able to drink and eat what you want at the wedding and on your honeymoon- you don't want morning sickness at this time. Just enjoy your wedding and your first few months of being married.

yes lots of good points, I went home last night and rechecked the calender, AF will come the weekend before the wedding so thinking it would be ok to stop the pill then.
I should probably also explain that this is our big trip overseas :dance: since I've never gone anywhere and we'll be starting a family, so AF will be coming at some point over the 5 weeks :rolleyes:.
I did what you're planning on doing. Worked out that AF would be due the week before our wedding. So went off the pill thinking all was ok. And what turns up on my wedding night ... AF!!!!! And it was my heaviest AF EVER and it lasted 10 days! Our honeymoon was for 12 days. I was not a happy camper. AF was a little out of whack for about 3 months then I fell pregnant.

I made the decision to stop the pill 6 months before our wedding with the idea of having a break before TTC straight after we were married, and suffered the most HORRID acne breakout that I went back on it. There was no way I was going to have skin like that on my wedding day and I wasn't taking the chance that it would settle on its own.
I'm not talking one or two zits either. It was all over my chest and jaw the worst :( I had been on the pill pretty much for 10 years and I guess coming off it made my hormones go ballistic. It took 8 weeks to get a period too!
I stopped the pill after our first week of honeymoon! As 1 didnt want it on wedding day and 2 didn't want it at Whitsundays!!! On Gold coast wasn't such an issue. It actually arrived after we got home anyway.

I stopped the pills one month before we tried to conceive but was lucky that my periods came out regularly upon stopping the pill. I must say they were much heavier periods then when I was on the pill. If you don't mind AF on your honeymoon then it's probably a good idea to stop the pill asap so you get a chance to understand your 'new' cycles before trying to conceive.

i would finnish the pack you have - As said above you never know what your body will do, I know i had quite bad cramps etc when i went off the pill and my period was hideous until it settled in, I was on the pill for about 12 years and it took my DH and i about 12 months of TTC to get our DS.
