How to shoo the sick people away

I was talking with the in-laws last night about dh getting the flu shot as he gets sick easy and I dont want him being sick with a new born in the house.
Mil says it's fine to be sick around a newborn as they are immune to EVERYTHING because of the colostrum, I explained to her they need to build up an immunity, they are not born with it.
She says I am wrong. Fine.
But the problem is that dh's family get sick all the time, just like dh. And when they get sick, they don't go to the doctor, they dont blow their noses, they don;t wash their hands, they are constantly sniffing and wiping their boogers everywhere.
So with winter coming up.. this is probably harsh, but how do you tell them to not come over or be near baby when they are sick?
Especially when baby is born, if they are sick, it will be extra hard.
They always get sick because they are unhygeinic people (imo), never wash their hands after touching animals then eating, they use the kitchen sponge to clean the floors and their shoes, and then the dishes again. This annoys me. Sorry for my ramble..

My in-laws won't let me help out with looking after kids and picking them up from school, or bringing an uncle home from hospital because it's too close to the birth... technically I still have 4weeks til the due date

Poopie - the best you can do is have some antiseptic hand cleanser near the front door and in the room where bub is and ask them to use it. If you're concerned about them visiting, then let them know the babymoon excludes them and arrange to meet in cafes etc maybe?

Colostrum and BM can help to boost immunity but it certainly won't prevent a newborn getting sick...silly MIL! My DH got the flu shot last year a few weeks before DS was born, he still got sick, quite sick actually. It's hard but if it's something you are truly concerned about then you just have to stand your ground. If you're worried about hand washing keep some of that hand sanitiser liquid at handy and get them to use that before going anywhere near bubby. DS was a winter baby too so I was very firm about no sick people coming over. Perhaps if you make it very clear to the ILs that they won't be welcome if they're sick then perhaps they'll make more of an effort with hygiene so they can see their grandchild. It might make you a bit unpopular but the health of your newborn is paramount and looking after a sick one os just more work for you. Goodluck!

And look what happened - your DH gets sick ALL the time. Perfect opportunity to tell them that they will do it your way ;)

Don't you love inlaws!!!!! ;););) BM does not prevent them from getting sick. I had a 2 week old baby with a massive head cold (thanks to MY mother :doh:) and before that a month old baby with a head cold! (thanks to Mother Nature that time I think!)

I say, keep some fly swats handy and when sickies get toooooooo near....swat them!:ROFL:
