Hi All,
I have very bad dust mite allergy and my doctor has recommended I rip up the carpets and replace with wooden floor boards or some thing similar. I really don't think we can afford the ridgy didge wooden floors. DH and I were in Ikea today and we looked at the vinyl wood look system. Anyone have it? Would you recommend it or some thing similar?
Bek, we've just put this in our place. It's not the IKEA stuff, we got ours from Harvey Norman Flooring but same deal.
We're happy with it. We've only had it in about a month though so it's early days. We love the look of it and so far it's holding up to the wear and tear from the kids. We have it in the back half of our place so our main living area, laundry, entry to our bedroom/ensuite (hard to explain but it's quite a large area) and it will also go into our ensuite when that is renovated (the stuff we used is 100% waterproof).

Now you have yours in, would you use it in the bedrooms? Remember we are in QLD and it doesn't get too cold here, plus I'll put some nice rugs down. My concern would be moving the kids beds and furniture around.
Yep, I would put it in bedrooms Bek, for sure. Especially if you put rugs down. My only complaint about it so far is that it does show up dust pretty badly. Like if I walk outside on the concrete then come back in, it'll leave dusty kinda footprints. Pretty annoying but that's my only complaint so far.

Yeah, we mainly find this an issue in our laundry because it is right at the back of the house and opens out onto our entertaining area etc. so it's a high traffic area and the kids are walking stuff in from the backyard etc. But with three kids I'm forever sweeping or vacuuming anyway so it's not that big a deal ;)

Bec, we have floorboards throughout....DH and i dont have carpet in our rooms, but girls (and boy :) ) does...i HATE carpet...there is floorboards under the carpet, and when we have some $$ we will be ripping it up and re-polishing those boards....
I sweep/vacumn several times a day ON THE FLOORBOARD area...i dont do the carpet, cos i dont see it (dust.....)t...carpet is very mysterious i find. I would rather see what i have to clean up than guess.....KWIM ????
I know what you mean MBear about vacuuming several times per day. Our eating area constantly needs cleaning up because the kids drop food all the time and DD1 is Miss scissors hands and her craft stuff gets everywhere lol.
I grew up in Queenslander style houses with wooden floors and I can remember my mother doing the floors constantly. I personally would rather see the dust as well, at least I know the place is clean.
Totally agree, I'd rather see the dirt. We have a large rug in our main living area that does.my.head.in because it is constantly dirty and stained. Blah! Trying to talk DH into getting rid of it now that we have the new floors and just replacing it with a much smaller, darker coloured rug.
Wow that flooring sounds fab! I love the look of timber laminate, but was concerned about using it in wet areas - but this stuff is water resistant! Cool!!
personally, IKEAs style is simple and nice.
but the quality isnt so good.
