Dressing newborn for Winter?

Hi Ladies, just wondering what you dress/ed your newborn in during winter, especially at night.

We currently sleep her in our room with the temp at around 21c

She wears a wondersuit and I wrap her in a flannel wrap or cotton wrap and put a thermal blanket (like the hossy ones) over the top to tuck her in.

Is this enough? I know that at night it can get quite cold and she manages to wriggle out of the wrap and have her arms out, so should I be putting a singlet on her and socks as well? I feel her head at night and it can feel cold, but I know your not supposed to put a hat on them at night.

I had a winter newborn last year and did singlet, wondersuit, swaddled in flannel wrap and thick cotton or crocheted wool blanket over the top just like you described. Worked for us just fine :)

21 degrees should be fine with the clothing you have in mind :) maybe singlet and socks if her feet/hands feel cold.

DD was born in July, so she was a winter baby.

She would wear a singlet, wondersuit then wrapped in 2 blankets and her cot quilt over the top. Our room got far colder than 21 degrees, probably closer to 15 degrees overnight and she seemed quite ok.

If she is waking frequently overnight then she is probably cold. If you can, put a couple of fingers down the front of her clothes and feel her chest. If her chest is warm (but not too hot) then she is probably warm enough. They regulate their temperature (as much as they can) through their head, so you're right not to put a beanie/hat on her. Don't worry if her hands or face feel cool either, as long as her chest is warm then she is warm.

Thanks for the replies, I am going to put a singlet on her under her suit when she wakes up for her next feed.

One thing I have noticed is that if she is too warm and cosy she wont wake for her feeds, so its a fine line between sleeping well and not waking up! lol

It gets to 5 deg here -inside- in Winter!
