DS is 2.5 and I'm thinking about moving him to a booster. The instructions on his car seat say that the shoulder straps shouldn't be lower than his shoulders and I've noticed lately that this is now the case.
Just wondering at what age did you move your child into a booster seat?
And any booster recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)
I was about to post the same thing, dd is three in July so only a few months older and she is really tall. Her shoulders are almost at the top of her seat, but she is very skinny so she escapes the harness even with extra strapping that is supposed to keep her in. So for her safety we think she needs to go into a booster as the shoulder straps are wayyyy to low. Glad to here there is someone else in the same situation. Looking at the laws because she isn't safe it's ok to move her even though she is so long.
You need to have a look at your SA Roads website as in Vic, not sure about other states, we now have new rules regarding correct seats for children. I think up to about 7 they need to be in a harness or seat similar to what you now have.
There was a thread somewhere that had these details but don't know where it is.

I know the laws regarding restraints , thanks rivlas :) just wanting to know when to move to the booster, which will still have the harness.
Hun, I thought the same with DS1 awhile ago, but I took it to a VicRoads approved fitting station, and they adjusted the seat so it was safer for him (in a way I didn't realise could be done). He should now be fine in it for many more months, which is good, as I'm under the impression that it's best to leave them in their current car seat until they are as close as possible to the weight limit (as long as that's practical ie. don't need the seat for another child etc). So I have the Maxi Rider ready to go, but won't start using it just yet.
I moved my DD out of her convertible car seat when she was just over 2 as her brother was arriving and I needed it for him. She weighed about 11 kgs. She went into a Maxi Rider.
DS moved into a Maxi Rider when he was about 2 and he weighed about 14kgs.
BTW, DD is now 7 and a half years old and she is still in the Maxi Rider (yes, she is small for her age). Although she can legally sit on the seat without any sort of booster she is simply too small and the seat belt would cut across her neck instead of sitting on her shoulder and would rest on her stomach instead of her hips. My point is, the Maxi rider has been an excellent investment and she has only ever needed the two car seats - the convertible then the Maxi Rider. Car seats/child restraints are my soap box (it relates to the work I do - I see a lot of kids in car accidents :() and I did a LOT of research when deciding which restraints to put my kids in. I highly recommend the Maxi Rider. It tethers to the vehicle, so doesn't rely on the weight of the child to hold the restraint in place in the event of an accident. It has a dedicated 5 point safety harness to be used until 18 kgs, and it has excellent side impact protection. Good luck, whatever you choose! :D
My girls were both around 3ish. DS will be in a booster in a few months coz I need his convertable for the baby. So he'll be less than 2.5.
