Thawing frozen EBM?

Hi,

Just trying to work out what to do- as we are going away for a few days to stay with a family member- it'll take about 10-12hrs to drive there- leaving about 3am Monday morning.

So my problem is that the family member has asked me to go to the movies with here on Tuesday night- she never gets to go and is really looking forward to getting out with me (she has 2 young children & not many friends). Usually up here no problem- i'd be able to leave DH with my 4 month old to either time to leave after a BF or he can give him an expressed bottle (if i've planned well enough) or get out a frozen one (i'd done some a month ago). I hadn't planned on taking any of that stuff, as that'd mean i'd have to take pump, bottle and steriliser- we're already taking a car load. And its not the type movie to take a baby too either.

So i was just thinking- how long can you thaw frozen milk. We will be taking a car fridge/esky that plugs into car- so can keep it cold in there- and could be transferred to fridge or freezes once there- but it wouldn't get drunk til the following night. Would this be ok or not?

Any other suggestions/ideas?

My ABA breastfeeding book says you can use the milk 24 hours after thawing if you thaw it in the fridge. It takes a fair while to thaw in the fridge too so possibly it would be okay?

Bec, EBM which has been thawed in the fridge can be kept in the fridge for about 24 hours. If the EBM is thawed at room temperature it only keeps 4 hours in the fridge. So as long as you thaw it in the fridge or car fridge I think you'd be ok.
