I'm taking DD to introduce her to my family and friends back in the UK in a few weeks time. I'd just assumed without giving it a second thought that I would feed her on demand throughout the journey, but DH suggested today that I check what the policy is in Dubai (flying with Emirates) regarding bf in public. :o Not too sure what I'd do if I found I couldn't bf her... she doesn't take a bottle, and she feeds to sleep... Anyone got any experience or advice?
Last year I flew back to the UK to see family thru Emirates via Dubai. I was only 22 weeks pregnant, so i didnt have the BF problem but omg i wore a singlet, and the looks i got!!!! i felt so embaressd :( I tried to cover up with a jumper after that even tho it was s hot even in the airport.
That was just my experience so I dont know how you would got BF. mabey they have a room or something?

I remember one thread from sasa which I can't find where she was on a plane with her baby and asked the lady next to her if she minded if she fed the baby and got into a conversation about babies in the UAE feeding for ages and then realised that many of the lumps inside the robes of the other passengers were babies being fed!
I'm guessing that the intent here is really important - look as though you are trying to be discreet, even if you fail. Take a couple of wraps and wear something that is easy to access.
Thanks for your responses. I think I might start practicing using wraps to cover her while feeding now... I don't usually bother coz she tends to just wave them around and get distacted by them but if I can get her used to them it might actually help to stop her from being too distracted.
Feeding on the plane really shouldn't be an issue - your baby needs to be fed. Take the window seat and wear something 'easy' as kmn suggests - I doubt anyone will even notice.
How old is she? If she's at that distractable age it might be trickier to get her to the boob until she's really tired. You might just have to play it by ear a bit.

What an interesting question. I did a quick google for you and came up with this link Breast feeding in Dubai -Times Online while its not about the airport as such it gives a bit of perspective of the local culture. I think if you took pains to respect their culture, regardless of whether you agree with it or not, then you should be fine and able to feed while transferring. I'd be interested in your experience on your return.

I took my 7 month old DS to the UK on Etihad via Abu Dhabi and I think I had one or the other of my boobs out for most of the time. Eeek, I was completely oblivious (and tired). I *think* I was discreet, but I can’t say for sure. No one said anything to me or looked at me funny, or maybe I just didn’t notice? :redface: :lol:
