I am such a novice LOL. My DS1 has two bottom adult teeth growing behind his baby teeth. One baby tooth is now wonky, but it has been for a while. The baby teeth have moved around because of the adult teeth pushing them. Is this normal? I thought the baby teeth fall out, then the new teeth grow in their place. Is my DS a freak (LOL) or is this normal?
Start wriggling those baby teeth!! It's not all that uncommon for the permanent teeth to come through before the baby teeth have fallen out, but it can result in the permanent teeth being displaced or to erupt in the wrong position. Once you have a couple of teeth in the wrong place you will find that more teeth come through incorrectly positioned... and you will end up with an expensive orthodontic bill in a few years!
So, wriggle the baby teeth and try to get them out (encourage your DS to do it himself). If they are not budging, you may need your dentist to extract them. Extraction of baby teeth is usually pretty quick and simple as they don't have big long roots, but *most* kids would rather pull them out themselves! My DS1 just lost his first tooth only weeks ago. He lost it at school (literally!). When I had a look I thought it had broken off but it was in fact another tooth already there.
My GF's little boy has the same thing except that his baby teeth aren't wobbly yet..she has been taking him to the dentist as he said they may have to pull the baby teeth out if they don't come out on there own.
If his baby teeth are wobbly you should be ok, if you are worried it may be worth taking him to the dentist to have a check up.
Give him apples and yes wobble them :)
DD1 had to have her 2 top front teeth pulled out last year coz the same happened. Her adult teeth actually got bigger than the baby ones. I'll come back after dinner with the pics, lol.
Try your hardest to wiggle them out, but get the dentist to check them out if they refuse.

Thanks ladies :). It sounds like I'd better keep harassing him to wiggle his loose tooth! I wonder how long I should leave it if they don't come out?

leave them be hun, adult teeth will push baby teeth out the way!! maybe get an opinion from the dentist but id be inclined to leave them at the moment
If they don't come out they will have to be pulled by the dentist so try to wobble them out but if they don't look like they are moving at all go straight to the dentist. Maybe give your dentist a call and ask how long you should leave them before coming in.
im all for wiggling them but id only have them extracted as a last resort, as that experience can be traumatic for some kids.
I have heard that calcium phosphate can help baby teeth come loose so that would be something to try before going to the dentist.
I remember my brother having a set of 'shark teeth' as they used to call them....I'm pretty sure he had his pulled out.
A good dentist these days should do it as a day surgery at your local kids hossy though so they are asleep and not too traumatised.
Thanks everyone! Hopefully he won't need to have them extracted. He had to have a tooth extracted when he was 2/12 after damaging it (from a fall). He was put under and it cost a fortune! It was also awful for me to watch him go through it, although he was perfectly happy and fine. We don't seem to have much luck with teeth so far LOL!
DD went through nothing like that. Hers were almost out, but just wouldn't come out completely. They hurt for her to keep moving them, but they didn't need much to be pulled.
They put some anaesthetic on them & gave her a tissue first to see if she could get them herself. She couldn't get hold of the teeth, coz they were too small, so the dentist just got the plier things & did it there & then.
Because they were loose anyway, they didn't actually need to be extracted. She felt them come out, but it didn't hurt. The same way as most of us would've felt when we were kids & pulled out a loose tooth. After seeing them do it I think that'd be the best way to go. Putting them under a ga for something so small would more than likely just make a big deal out of what is really nothing at all. Unless the baby teeth hadn't loosened at all. I guess they might need something more then :dunno:
DD1 was smiling & happy straight after, as you can see from the photo. That was 10 minutes later.
my two front long ones i had both baby teeth still there when i was 8-9 and i had to get them pulled out...
I was about 9 or 10 and needed 3 teeth removed because of adult teeth growing behind them, I required a local anethetic, done by needle (not nice!) and then they pliered them out, may depend how into the gum they are as what the process will be. I'd ask dentist.
this happenned to all my baby teeth, I ended up having the baby teeth extracted as the adult teeth were coming up - now I really do dislike going to the dentist.
Trish, if he does need them out it will likely be really really easy. Some kids only need a little topical anaesthetic, rather than local. Depends on how loose the tooth is. Definitely no GA! I'm not keen on exoing teeth unnecessarily, but in this sort of situation if left too long it can affect the position of the permanent teeth. Just see how it goes for a little while, and encourage him to wobble wobble wobble, while watching TV, in the car etc.
Is he due to see the dentist soon anyway?
My sister recently had her wisdom teeth out, and had to get 3 others removed from inside the gum - they were adult teeth that had never erupted, her baby teeth were still there!
I'm glad this thread has been bumped! I started the thread in May last year and never updated! The two bottom teeth did come out on their own, but now we have the same problem with one of his top teeth. The two adult teeth have come right through, but one of the baby teeth is still in front. It's really loose and has been knocked onto an angle, but it won't come out! I keep getting DS1 to wobble it, but I'm thinking we might need to take him to a dentist for this one.
