How long for hind milk?
Have just had a clinic visit with DD who is 8 months today and I was asked am I sure she is taking the hind meilk when she feeds. Very early on the midwives said I needed her on the breast for at least 20 minutes to get the hind milk but obviously as she is now much bigger and vaccum like she isnt on there as long. So I am wondering how long would it take her to get to the hind milk these days? Now I am curious if she is only getting the thirst quenching milk, we have 5 heavy wet nappies a day, weight is fine and is content but I am a little puzzled (yet again)
Thanks heaps x

She's fine. Forget about fore/hind milk - by now she is a veritable milking machine and will get precisely what she needs.

If she is draining the breast, she is getting everything she needs...Like Marcellus said, she is a old hat at this feeding business now and so long as there are wet and dirty nappies aplenty, she is happy, then she is healthy ;)

I think the fore/hind milk thing is going to be a bit of an inexact science anyway. Whose to say if you're a great milk-producer that your foremilk is not all drunk (by your vacuum) baby in one minute flat? The hind milk might not come in the initial let-down, but given you'd usually have more than one let-down per feed, I'd be guessing there's plenty of both fore and hind milk there.
It's all good stuff! You had no reason to doubt yourself before you spoke to the clinic nurse, I'd put that little piece of advice to one side and continue as you were the day before.

Thanks girls :D. I really do need to ignore the ridiculous dribble that comes out of that particular womens mouth. It's such a shame that people you expect are the 'educated health professionals' put more worry into a first time mummy!
Thanks again girls.....will trust myself and my bubba ;)
