Ticks (the insect kind)
Please give me your tips on getting rid of a tic.
DS has one under his eye. I tried tweezers, but its very small, so hard to get hold of.
I tried smothering it in tea tree to see if it would back out, but its still there.
I'm about to go look for vasoline (hopefully I have some) to see if that will smother it out, but other than waiting for him to sleep & trying the tweezers again, I don't know what else to do.
Its very close to his eye, so I can't put anything on it he might rub into his eye, & his skin around it is going red.
He's just crashed out, so I'll smother it & hope for the best. I'm not willing to try the tweezers til he's had more sleep.
Please help!!

Have had a bit of a google about and I got this from the Pittwater Council site
How To Remove A Tick
1. Do not attempt to kill the tick with methylated spirits, alcohol, nail polish remover, petroleum jelly or any other substance, as this aggravates the tick causing it to inject more toxin,
2. Remove the attached tick with tweezers or a tick remover, by grasping it behind its head as close to the skin as possible. It is preferable for a second person to remove the tick
3. If the tick has a firm hold, it can be encouraged to loosen its grip by applying a paste of bicarb soda and holding in place with a bandaid for 15 minutes
4. Gently pull the tick out without twisting or jerking it
5. Wash your hands, and disinfect the tweezers and the bite
6. Mass infestations of small larval or nymph stage ticks are best removed by soaking for 20 minutes in a warm bath with 1 cup of bicarb soda added.
Goodluck and hope that helps

Ok, will go wipe off the vasolene & try the tweezers while he's asleep. Thanks
ETA - I think I got it.

don't feel bad about the vaseline though cause that's what I would have done too

Yeah, its gone. All the stuff I kept putting on it made it soften, so it just broke up as I pulled it out, but eventually I got it all. I think it made it easier coz it didn't grip so hard, even though it was so tiny to get hold of. He slept through the whole thing!

Yes, now to find my Bactroban to clear up the infection happening 'down there' & get rid of his flu!
Poor kid has had a rough few days. Will probably have to have abs to fix him completely...
