bottles for a 12 mth old?

Is it bad to continue giving DS EBM from a bottle? At my MCHN appointment the other day she said if he is still having EBM then it should be from a sippy cup. I've started working twice a week and the bottle has been working well for us (DS has always been a bit hit and miss with booby alternatives), it gives me peace of mind and I don't have to worry about him playing up for whoever looks after him while I'm out. He has maybe 3 bottles a week, the rest of the time it's from BM from me. I've tried with a sippy cup before but he's never been good with them, he drinks water from a cup (messily, but he likes it)....expressing is starting to get harder so I'm hesitant to try him with EBM cup as I don't want to waste any precious milk experimenting!

So basically what I'm getting at is am I doing the wrong thing...or is it ok to keep doing something that works to stop me worrying at work?

Sounds like you already know the answer to your question! I would be sticking with what works, plenty of kids are still drinking formula from bottles at that age and you don't want to cause any extra stress to you or your DS

I'd just stick with what works! As you said he doesn't have that many during a week anyway. he will drink from a sippy cup/cup when he is ready :)

I usually take everything the MCHN says with a grain of salt but she was pretty adamant about this one.

I think the only issue is that a bottle is something you may struggle to get rid of later on, KWIM? IME MCHN's always seem to be obsessed with risk minimisation or something (which is so dramatically different to MWs!) - same with sleep "issues" - they recommend you don't feed to sleep because later down the track it might need to be changed and oooooooooooooohhhhhhh! How SCARY and HARD that would be! (Please note the sarcasm - difficult to put into a written post ;) ).
As a PP has said, plenty of kids are still having formula bottles at 12mo. It's up to you as to when you get rid of the bottle. I am kind of relieved that my daughter has started to refuse the bottle while I am at work. Funny how these things happen - I don't have to worry about trying to 'get rid' of the bottle because she is just doing it for me!
So... to cut a long story short (TOO LATE!!! LOL!) I would agree with the others - stick with what's working for you until it isn't working anymore :)

Oh so true Snacks....a friend of mines MCHN recommended she and her 8 month old go to sleep school as he isn't sleeping through the night and they should nip the problem in the bud :o

Actually on Wed when I was at work mum said she didn't even have to give DS his bottle so he may start doing the same thing perhaps. I drank my morning milk from a bottle until I was almost 4 :redface: and I think I turned out ok so not to worry I guess hehe!
