"oh you have to get a sling for your newborn" yeah... but which one????

I keep reading and getting told that I should invest in a sling for when my next baby arrives as I will have a 18mth old and a newborn. But which one am I supposed to get there are so many out there.
After all my research I would have to say that an ergo sounds like the best option. I am not very big so my back wouldnt take alot. I have tried a peanut type sling with my DD and it was horrible it hurt me and I ended up taking it back and getting a refund.

What do you suggest, is an ergo suitable for a newborn??

I would suggest a hug a bub before the ergo...I found the infant inseryt really hrad to use annd gave up. DS2 never liked it...the ergo is great now that he can sit properly :) The HAB is great and super comnfy...willl come back later typing one handed is hard lol x

I reckon a wrap style is best for a NB, an ergo is better a bit later on. The ergo with infant insert was too hot here but it might be ok in VIC so the rgo might work for you but it was too hot for us. I am a size 10 so pretty small and the ergo fits me fine. The weight should be on your hips.

Just subscribing as i'd really love to hear the answers you get also. I'm expecing my 3rd and DS2 will be 21 months old when it arrives. I'm thinking about slings also but get so confused just looking at them.

I agree with the sentiments that a wrap style is best for a newborn. I used a close baby carrier as I could never the hang of wrapping the hug a bub. At around 3.5 months I got an ergo and since then it's been perfect.

I have a few slings/carriers.

I found the Close Carrier the best for when Eden was a newborn, absolutely fantastic, and not as fiddly as the HAB.
I have the Ergo as well, but have a problem with it being a bit short in the back for my liking, I feel like my kids are going to fall out - but they are really long kids.
I also have a Hot Sling, which is good for just round the house, but I wouldn't wear it for too long, pulls at my shoulder and neck too much.
I have the Baby Hawk Oh Snap, which is good from 6 months up, however isn't a very good carrier for me because it crosses over the back when in front carry, and it annoys me. Plus its hard for me to adjust so I'm selling that.
I have a Silly Goose Baby Mei Tai - and I like that one, however am selling it, but would be good for newborns, and I still carry DS in it, and he's nearly 3.5 years old. Its good because its got an adjustable bottom on it, so to adjust between a newborn butt size and a toddler butt size.
I have a Kleinsmekker (which is why I'm selling the SGB Mei Tai) and it is by far the most comfortable carrier. Hard to get hold of and VERY expensive (I got mine for $275, the person originally paid $330 for it brand new)

I still want a soft structured carrier though - but since I don't like the BH or Ergo, I'm thinking of getting a Beco Butterfly II. They have a longer back than the Ergo, and they look really easy to adjust. Plus if you have a newborn, they really are supporting the baby in a little pouch type thing, so no worries about bubs falling out.

i used it non-stop when ds2 was a newborn

I used a baby bjorn for DS1 and hated it, found it hurt my back, even when he was tiny, so gave it back to the original owner after a few goes with it. This time I've used a Hug-a-bub, and I love love love it. DS2 loves it too, it's guaranteed to relax him & get him to sleep.

DS1 I had an ergo and baba sling.
Ergo loved it from 4 months on, hated as a newborn.
Baba sling was great until 4 months then it hurt my neck.

DS2 I bought a close carrier and love it!!!!! its great so easy to use and supportive.
I have put DS2 in ergo a few times but currently still prefer close carrier.

A wrap style for a newborn is a definite. I'm small too & find my Ergo is too big for me. Only now is it getting better as DD is big enough to go on my back in it and then it fits more comfortably.

My recommendation for wrap style sling is the Tyion Sling from Franklyn & Spencer who are a couple of mums in Kalgoorlie, WA. I think they sell for around $90 so are cheaper than the Hug-a-bub. Google them for details or PM me & I'll fish the website out of my emails.

Yup wrap style for sure...I used a sleepy wrap, exactly the same as a HAB but alot cheaper. Ergos are good from about 6 months onwards.

Ditto on the close carrier till about 6 months. Ds2 lived in it, and I loved using it. So comfortable. And my boys are 18 m apart. I am now using the ergo which I love too, as ds2 is awake a lot more and the close is not quite as good for that.

just wanted to pop back in here and say I ended up getting a close carrier and boy is it unreal I love it so much and yep its true what they say you definantly need a sling for your newborn especially with a toddler I would be lost without it. Thanks girls xoxoxo
