2 Kids in a 2 bed house and visitors? Have you done it? How?

Ok... we were approved for a really nice house today. Both DH and I really like it BUT.... It's only a 2 bedroom house. Both rooms are huge (the second one used to be one but they knocked out a wall and made the 2 rooms into one). The girls share a room now so thats not an issue. My only concern is what happens when we have family come to visit (neither of us have family living in Sydney, DH's from NZ and mine from the country).

I'm trying to work out where people would sleep when they come to visit (if we accept the house). Currently we don't have a sofa bed but getting one could be an option. My other thought was (if the girls room is big enough) was to put another single bed in there (that would mean 2 single beds and a cot in that room) so at least my parents would have a bed to sleep on and when they come to visit have the girls in with us.
Friends are happy to sleep on our lounge as it's so comfy and it's usually only one night here and there that they are here for.

Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone else have suggestions that I haven't thought of?

I haven't done it, but I can see that it would work. The bed in the girls room or the bed in the lounge room would work either way. Congrats on the house btw!

Trundle beds under the beds you currently have. So at least in the girls room you can pull out the trundle and put it up. Those blow up mattresses are wonderful as well.

Honestly guests do not mind when visiting if they're in cramped quarters, they're just using the bedding to sleep on. They're visiting you, to catch up with you etc.

I'm in a teeny 2 bedroom granny flat. I have only just enough room for the cot & single bed in the kids room. When I have visitors DD sleeps in my bed with me, someone gets her bed & I can fit 2 people on my L shaped lounge. The most I've had stay over was 5 people, that's when I had a single bed set up for DS so there were 2 single beds in the kids room (no cot). DD was in bed with me, DS in a porta cot in my room, my sister in one single bed, my older niece in the other bed, my teenage niece & nephew (brother & sister) were at one end of the lounge each (L shaped so they pretty much had one lounge each) & my nephews girlfriend was on the lounge room floor but of course made her way next to my nephew on the lounge as soon as we were all in our beds :lol:
It is squishy but if it doesnt happen often then I think it would be ok :)

We're in a small 3br 1 living area cottage with 2.9 kidlets in it. We moved from a larger house so our furniture is big. Wasn't an issue in the old house, we had two living areas and heaps of room for visitors - used a blowup mattress.

In THIS house, since my family isn't broke so when they visit, they stay at the local pub. At least they get their own bathroom that way :)

My family isnt broke either as I'm sure sunshines family wouldnt be but its nice IMO to have family stay over, saves them the unnecessary cost of staying at a hotel & I find it's always a great time had by all with the whole "sleep over" experience.

We had 3 kids and my mum come and stay in our 3 bedroom unit. We put DS on the floor in our bedroom with the mattress off his bed - DD2 was in the cot, also in our room, and DD1 stayed in her room. Mum stayed in DS's room on a spare mattress from my aunty's house. Was a bit squishy in our room, but we managed!! :D

We couldn't physically fit an extra two people in this house unless we moved the kitchen table in front of the sink/pantry/oven or stood the lounge suite on end. We've already got boxes or bits of furniture taking up space in the bedrooms so there's nowhere for more beds. And the other half is up in the kitchen until 3am most days so having someone sleep in the kitchen that isn't practical anyway.

There's a damn good reason we're building a 4br house. This one is just waaaaaaaaaay too small for us, especially as we have big furniture from the old house. I've seen bigger 2br units.

Actually our neighbour's house is even smaller than ours and they obviously have the same problem with visitors that we do - they've got a caravan parked on the street outside their house! We've asked to borrow it when my parents come to see the new baby, to save that hotel expense thing :)

Nah, it's all doable.
Like Rumpled Elf we've had visitors offer to stay at a local motel, we've given up our bed and camped in with the kids, or slept on the lounge (our parents are quite immobile and elderly, so the floor isn't an option for them).
Someone you know always has a blow up bed too.

We don't have family near by either, and even when we lived in very small units, we always managed to fit everyone in (everyone always seemed to visit at once).. You have to rent what is right for you and your family.. Guests will work around it.

That's our problem - we didn't. But it's cheap, and its only for another 6 months. I couldn't cope here longterm, I'd go nuts.

atm we have a sofa bed in the lounge room. our family are interstate and international so can get cramped if they stay for longer periods of time. although now that DD is older my mum is now able to sleep in DDs bedroom and DD sleeps on a trundle on the floor. it of course would be nicer for guests to have their own room, but you can make it work easily enough and doesnt (well in our experience) deter them from visiting lol! although when my grandparents used to visit we would give them our room and bed and we would sleep on the sofa bed...

another option is to buy one of those wizz bang air beds that i saw for sale at a furniture store. surely they are cheaper than a sofa bed and can be packed away in a cupboard...
