Sterilising?? Pls help
Hoping someone can pls offer me some information.......I am BFing but want to express 1 bottle per day to include DH. I know I still need to express the feed he gives her from the bottle. My questions are about steralising:
Should I be using the bottles and pump immediately after steralising or is it ok to let them air dry and use later?
If I should use them straight away - should I wipe away the condensation or is it okay to use the bottle/pump with the condensation?
If I store the milk in the fridge and then want to use it, do I need to steralise the teet again?
Clearly I am clueless!! Any help greatly appreciated.

Good news! No sterilising necessary. Just rinse your bottles and pump equipment in cold water, wash with hot soapy water, rinse again and you are done. Your baby already has your household germs!

firstly congrates hun!!! secondly, breathe babe ur doing fine!!!
if it ur first time using the pump and bottles i'd sterilise them. what method are u using?
as a general rule as soon as things are out of the water they've been sterilised in, theyre no longer sterile! annoying but true.
so it doesnt really matte rif u use things straight away or not.
i wouldn worry about the condensation at all.
With breast milk u dont need to constantly sterlise everything because as long as its kept at correct tempuratures it doesnt harbour nasty bacteria like forumla does(ie keeping it in the fridge and not on the bench)
i used to just chuck everything in the dish washer or clean them myself with hot soapy water.
Have fun with ur new bubba hun, i bet she's gorgeous

Yeah, forget about sterilising - it's such a pain! I wish I'd known that back in the day.
The ABA also have useful info on collecting and storing EBM

Hi, congrats on your bub. I express for when I am at work. I steam sterilise all my pump equipment and bottles, I know it's a little over the top but it makes me sleep easier at night knowing everything that I am feeding my baby girl with is if not sterile at point of use is at least extremely clean. I don't worry about condensation, I let the stuff air dry for a bit and then I store it in a container. I personally don't like using miltons on anything that she is going to chew or suck on as it is quite a harsh chemical. I do soak her plastic toys in miltons every week or so though. The ABA has some fantastic articles on expressing and storing breastmilk. I make sure I put my EBM straight in the fridge after expressing and I freeze it before it reaches 24 hours in the fridge if it's not used. Avent have these nifty little storage cups which can be frozen and thawed and sterilised and thrown in the dishwasher which I find are great, you can also get special bags for freezing breastmilk in. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the added freedom expressing can give you. Hope you found something useful.
