I'm having twins!

Hi ladies - thought I'd introduce myself. I've just found at at my 12 week NT scan that I have twins on board. Infact they belive identical as it looks like they are sharing a placenta. They do appear to be in their own sacs though.

So I'm now just rearranging my thinking about pretty much everything and am looking through old threads too.

Its amazing how many folks seem to have had a vaginal birth, my OB is more keen on c section but not pushing it too much, he just said he believed it to be safer for baby 2. The midwife at the private hosp almost fell off her seat when I said that he would be prepared to let me try for a natural. She said almost all are done by c section across the board now (I wonder if that means across private ???)

wow congrats my DH is so jealous lol he wants twins. Glad to hear you got your BFP so quickly after your loss which i followed in the ttc 1-6 thread when we were both in there. How exciting for you! I have heard a lot of women now are "pushed" to go for a c-sec rather than natural with multiples but my MIL is disgusted by it as she gave birth to perfectly healthy twins 28 years ago

DW is due with twins soon, and our Ob was very supportive of a vaginal birth if everything went to plan. Unlike some, we aren't militant about it and were happy with whatever option seemed safest once all of the information was available. As it turns out in our case, both babies are transverse breech so we're not taking that level of risk in trying for a vaginal birth, and assuming things remain the same will be having a scheduled caesearian.

I think it's unfortunate if an Ob went for the caesearian option without consideration to the alternative, so it's good that yours is open to things.

I think it depends on the hospital, and thre experience of the obstetricians, regarding how twins are born. The do say a cs is seen to be safer for the second twin as they endure 2 lots of strong contractions, but VB is definately possible. I know of several sets of twins born safetly the good old fashioned way :)

Just thought I'd let you know of my experience. I had twins 10 months ago through a private hospital. My ob was actually more pro-natural birth as long as twin 1 was head down and that I had an epidural in just in case a c-sec was needed to get twin 2 out. As it turned out, twin 1, our little boy was head down and born with no worries. Once he was out, twin 2, our little girl was sideways. My ob helped her turn head down by gently moving her by pressing on the outside of my stomach area. She then turned head down and was born naturally too, 24 minutes later.

Hi ladies - thanks so much for the congrats. Its so nice to see some of those names I've not heard from in a while!!! I hope you are all well.

I'm starting to process the whole twin thing now, its amazing really, but I'm not too sure I'm ready for what's about to happen to my body. Looking full term at 6 months is going to be a challenge.

ShootingStar: yep, that's me. I've been a member of that club on and off since the mid 80's. Looking forward to the announcement hopefully today - and hoping that its later in December or January...

Hi Sarahrach - sorry I'm a bit late on this thread, but I just wanted to say congrats - two times, first for the BFP and second for the twins!

Congratulations! I have twins and gave birth to them vaginally. I was living in Scotland at the time and the CS rate for twins at my hospital was around 50% - basically with medical indication only. This is common in the UK. I wanted a natural intervention free birth but was prepared to take any medical advice that was offered. Thankfully my babies were in a good position, and healthy throughout, so I got my vaginal birth. My birth story is in my signature.
