Oversupply in one breast?

I had a white spot/blocked duct on my right nipple come up on Friday, with hot showers/compresses before feeds and feeding much more from the right side, by the time I got to my GP on Sunday morning it had gone, she double checked and felt it was all clear, and said to continue to feed more frequently from the R side for another day or two just to make sure it was clear.

Well I'm 100% it's clear, and now I think I have a problem with my R breast producing far too much milk! It's taking DD ages to drain it, and it never really feels empty, it's throbbing when it's full because it feels so full (throbbing in diff places, not just in one place) and she's starting to have frothy green poos so I think it must be oversupply? Plus she's alot more vomity than normal too.

Feeding less from that side now is proving more difficult than I thought, so I was hoping someone could give me advice on how to reduce the supply. She feeds 3 - 4 hourly during the day, taking both breasts, from approx. 7am to 7pm. Overnight she feeds at approx. 2am then 5am, only taking one side at each feed.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

I think basically you want to keep it comfortable - make sure no lumps but just let you baby take as much as she needs
It is quite normal for one side to make mroe than the other, btw, and statistically it's more often the right side. Fascinating fact.

I had this happen after surgery on my left breast. DD2 couldn't feed off it for two weeks and by the end of that my right one was twice the size of the left :o

So I fed from them evenly after that and if my right one was tight or sore, I expressed a little bit off to make it more comfortable. But not too much as I didn't want to make more supply than I was needing. That is what the ABA suggested to me, but call them they may have some other great ideas

It'll take a little time to settle if you start bfing more from the other side. I'd try to go back to what you were doing before you were encouraging her to bf from the right side. Offer the left side twice at every feed. Start on the left side, only bf her for 10 mins or so on the right (not sure what she normally feeds for per side, but don't let her go too long) and then go back to the left side again. Keep an eye on your right hand side but supply=demand. The less you feed her from that side will affect the amount she makes.

Does she have a preference for that side usually?

I'd also suggest calling the ABA help line and asking a bfing counsellor what they'd suggest 1800 mum 2 mum.

Thanks for the input, I do plan on calling the ABA but I was aiming to wait til tomorrow during the day so as not to interrupt anyone's evening. Instead I interrupted all of yours ;)

Jennifer she does normally have a preference for the R side, but for the first 6 or so weeks my left side was always more full, it had all just settled down when this happened! She tends to take about 15 mins on each side, give or take a little.

I'm taking all the info on board, but will call the ABA tomorrow too. Hopefully I wont be too lopsided for long! Thanks again.
